13 Replies and 5240 Views 22 year claim professional considering CAT adjusting  5240  13 Started by  OldAdjuster I work the for the largest P & C insuror in the United States. I am getting ready to go thru my third re-organization in ten years. I am 46 years of age with 22 years of claim handling experience. Transfering with this company is no longer an option as I have two kids in high school and a wife that is established in her profession. But I am what I am...I can't see myself doing anything else but handling claims. The problem is that all my experience is on the auto side. A question I hav...

0 Replies and 3397 Views Regular Daily Claims  3397  0 Started by  Ray Hall In the last year or so I have been working Commercial General Liability claims on apartment houses and night clubs etc About 75 of the policies have a mold- fungi exclusion for BI/PD claims by 3rd party claimants. All the attorney represented cases are dropped when the insured and claimants attorney are advised the policy will not defend nor indemnify on behalf of the insured. Seems to me the trial lawyers will not take a good case of mold injury allegations; unless the insurance company wil...

16 Replies and 4385 Views LONG NIGHTS - LONGER DAYS  4385  16 Started by  margar1 Much has been stated about the trials and tribulations of life on the road while working a storm. We all know about the non- stop 18 hour days and the pressure with performing and delivering to maintain a significant income. While I do not know personally what my physical appearance is when I arrive home from a deployment my wife does. She has stated on more than one occasion that Look like something the cat dragged in. In not noticing my dreadful appearance I do notice hers. While I do see...

A judge started looking into possible contempt penalties today for two Mississippi sisters and a prominent lawyer who blew the whistle on State Farm Insurance in a Hurricane Katrina case. 7 Replies and 3499 Views More Insurance Humor  3499  7 Started by  Gulfsun1 Seems the BBB got a complaint the other day about a scam where an AFLAC insurance representative was taking advantage of women on the street and stealing their money.  Now we all, at one time, thought that an INSURANCE Company has stolen from us, however this scam is netting COLD HARD CASH from unsuspecting individuals.  The way it works is....the thief uses children to distract the target.  While admiring the cuteness of the kids they are robbed of their cash ...

11 Replies and 3424 Views 2006 Storm Season Optimism  3424  11 Started by  Janice R. Martin-Toll Tom and I were fortunate this year in that we worked a couple of storms (hail and tornado) as well as daily claims for different companies.  Even though we were working, our claim count was far below the average year.   Being, for the most part, an optimistic individual, I spent some time today thinking of positives for the ’06 storm season.  Here’s my Top Ten List:   10.  More time for playing ladies’ golf.   9.  More time for playing co...

0 Replies and 3611 Views Anyone heard of Step Down Coverage, Auto  3611  0 Started by  ronone10 Hello,  I recently was asked if I knew of a coverage called Step Down for personal lines auto.   From what I understand, it is an optional coverage which gives the insured a different set of liabilty limits for a permissive operator.  In otherwords, if you currently have 100/300/50 AA/BB limits and you buy the Step Down coverage, you can select 25/50/10 limts to cover a friend that happens to borrow your car for the day.   Pretty innovative coverage and...

4 Replies and 3156 Views You Are What You Eat  3156  4 Started by  Medulus Three weeks ago I did something I had only done one other time since July 2005.  I ate a home cooked meal.  One of the facts of life for our profession is that we eat out a lot.  For those of us who virtually spend our lives on the road, we may find ourselves in a restaurant more than 300 days a year.  Bearing this in mind, I thought it might be a good idea to share some of our favorite restaurants with each other.  Here, however, are the ground rules.  The restaura...

5 Replies and 2981 Views The Passing of an Old Friend  2981  5 Started by  Tom Toll Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as: Knowing when to come in out of the rain; Why the early bird gets the worm; Life isn't always fair; and Maybe it was my fault. Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can e...
