Supervision Labor 6774 9
Started by ihcalan
&160;Hello - I need an opinion. &160;
Lately, over the past few months, I've seen more and more contractor's adding the line item 'supervision labor' to estimates. &160;This is above and beyond O&P, and in fact O&P is also placed on this supervision labor.
Generally, I've been seeing this on mid sized residential losses - losses in the range of $50K-$150K. &160;When I comment and say supervision is included in O&P, I get a resounding 'No - Overhead is to keep the lights on all ...

Does any state allow co-insurance on a dwelling policy ? 5044 9
Started by Ray Hall
Do not confuse replacement coverage requirements on a Homeowners policy with co insurance. I am not aware of any state that allows a co insurance clause(for the reduction in premium as the insured&160; is co insurer on each loss). I THINK you will find the answer to be 'not allowed on a dwelling policy on building and contents in all states.(It was this way 50 years ago). &160;This is another question.. Give a reason given by the insurance carriers to the consumer,s for having a deductible lim...

\We insure against risk of direct physical loss to property\ 21212 27

I have taught insurance coverage over the years and just saw an excellant example of 'direct physical loss to property' this was a case of a domestic house cat trapped behind the sheetrock of a house being constucted in Winslow, AZ. The owner closed and moved in and heard 'meow' over the kitchen ceiling several days ago and cut 4 holes to remove the cat, this made the poor cat to move and todays photos showed a bath room wall removed.&160; Yep all covered under the HO-3 subject to the 2 deduc...

Does anyone know of a place to get HO policies for each state? 7127 6
Started by jwt_houtex
I am trying to find a copy of Minnesota's standard homeowner's policy. It wasn't as easy as I thought; accordingly, is anyone aware of perhaps a website that has a comprehensive database of policies If not, what suggestions do you have for quickly locating HO policies and their endorsements for various states
Appreciate any help anyone could offer..thanks.

definition of incur 5828 18
Started by Leland
Most adjusters are familiar with two lines of coverage that require the insured to 'incur' an expense: law and ordinance coverage (commonly known as building code upgrade coverage) and ALE. Normally the insured is asked to provide receipts. But what does incur actually mean Does the insured need to actually make a payment, or is it enough to owe the money to a third party ie. sign a contract Would you accept a signed contract between the insured and a general contr...

Real Estate Appraiser - Expanding Business into Adjusting? 6773 10
Started by Phineas
I'm located in Chapel Hill, NC and I'm working on getting my Residential Appraisal Certification - I'm about 3/4 of the way through my apprenticeship (under my dad). He recently had a rental property catch on fire, so I've been finding out more about the fire insurance process, and they are now going through the 'appraisal clause' due to discrepancies between the insurance co.'s adjuster and our local contractors. Anyways, I've become interested in trying to diversify our business, an...

Hey everybody, Trying to gear up for this hurricane season and haven't worked a storm in over a year. Anyone in the same situation that wants to meet up and practice writing a claim or xactimate Rather than taking a class we as adjusters could get together and compare estimates, this would be just as good or not better than one of those re-fresher classes. If you live in the Orlando or Space Coast region hit me up. brianlamothehotmail.com Good luck this season...

Participation in Loss/Deductibles 6919 12

I offset a deductible in Galveston on a couple of occasions where the additional structure loss exceeded policy limits. Here's a few questions:
1. Could the participation in loss loophole apply to ACV item such as fencing in offsetting deductibles
2. Tree removal, computers, firearms, boats, etc. Could those losses offset deductibles
Also, what's the legalities of invoicing to receive depreciation for work not performed Unless I'm mistaken...

Texas Lawsuits-21Century Hurricane Losses-The following Years 4929 9
Started by Ray Hall
I don,t think many commercial Ike Claims ended up in the TV lawyers office, but far too many 'so called paid and settled' HO losses did.
I remember about 8 years ago State Farm, Allstate and possibly more had the 'table top' settlement program designed to stop many of the reopens and long tail clean up. It seemed to work and was in force for several years. I do not know, but 04 and 05 may have changed this practice. I do know 05 Katrina MS. losses on the beach changed the wavewash losses to rev...

The of the deductible clause. 3816 6
Started by Ray Hall
This clause was purported to be introduced to keep insureds from reoprting small events that did not exceed the decutible amount. My first years in adjusting it was $50.00 on auto collision and $0 on all auto perils. $50.00 or $100.00 for Windstorm, hurricane or hail, ONLY not fire, lightning or&160; the other EC perils.
As we are aware today it is on all perils and ranges down from $25 -50K on commercial to $10,000 on any peril home homeowners or up to 5 of the insured amount on the Dwelling...

Can anyone tell me what the standards are for shingles that are not sealed down I have a roof that went through a major storm with winds reaching almost 100 mph. None of the shingles on any of the slopes are sealed. It has been almost 2 months since the storm, they should have re-sealed by now. There is some debris under some of the shingles.
