Irrespective of the policy forms and endorsements, do you always apply the same criteria for general contractor overhead and profit, (applied when 3 or more trades are involved). That criteria being when overhead and profit is included, do you always pay 10 and 10 on an “ACV” basis regardless of the type of policy or endorsements

12 Replies and 7506 Views Trader, Pressure Wash a Roof?!  7506  12 Started by  Jud G. Ok, I'll bite.  I want to know what covered peril in your standard ISO form policy would trigger the allowance of pressure washing the fungus off a roof. Trader brought this up in another thread and after Steve indicated that there were over 40 articles out there about pressure washing roofs, this subject would suffice for a separate thread.  My first reaction to this repair is to know if this is even a repair to begin with  Wouldn't you tear up your asphalt or fiberglass shin...

12 Replies and 4854 Views HOA vs. Insd's Special 7 on a condo patio enclosure...  4854  12 Started by  PeakPhil Long time reader, first time poster here... Hail Storm occured in Ohio.  A HOA carrier is denying coverage on a patio enclosure, which is attached with no gaps to a single-unit dwelling.  The patio was built by the original homeowner, who still owns and occupies the dwelling full-time.  The homeowner purchased a Special 7 "Elite" policy from a carrier to insure her belongings, as well as the enclosure.  The I/A for the HOA is stating no coverage because the polic...

Good evening all. I would like to get some of your input in the line of sight  matching issue as expressed in states such as Florida & Ohio. I have heard it explained in several different manners with the most recent being that it is as viewed from the front of the residence only and across the street. I am going to research legislation on the matter, but thought that I would get a new topic going. Bill R.

9 Replies and 6568 Views Ordinance or Law exclusion  6568  9 Started by  Leland I adjust some DP policies that exclude "Ordinance or Law, meaning enforcement of any ordinance or law regulating the use, construction, repair or demolition of a building or other structure, unless specifically provided under this policy."  Some carriers believe this means no coverage for building permits. Some will pay for building permits, just not code upgrades. I always respect the carriers opinion. What do my fellow adjusters think Leland

15 Replies and 6264 Views granule loss  6264  15 Started by  RandyC A topic that never seems to go away is that of granule loss to a composition roof.  Reports are published by firms like Haag and the manufacturers themselves explaining how granule loss is normal, but still homeowners, encouraged by PA's and lawyers, collect granules from their gutters to prove their loss. It seems to me granule loss is much like mileage on a new car.  A new car begins accumulating miles before it is even sold...just like a shingle loses granules before it is  so...

(tropic transfer posted by racko) To kill some time in this lull period & spread some knowledge, here is the scenario (or scenarios) as you see fit to make it.  I will lay out the limited info as follows, and let's see where it goes. Heavy fire loss occurs in a single family dwelling.  Cov is HO-3, no issues with eff dates.   Insureds have just left home about 6:00 p.m., a couple hours before fire breaks out and is discovered.  High winds fan the flames and ea...

1 Replies and 3957 Views Depreciation on contents  3957  1 Started by  adjuster74 I am a staff adjuster.  My company uses the depreciation guide from claimspages.net.  It has not been updated since 2004.  It does not show depreciation on CDs, Playstation games, DVD Players, Electronic video games, such as, X Box, Playstations, etc.  Could someone tell me a website to go to that will show me a more updated depreciation guide with these items on it.

6 Replies and 4222 Views HO-8 policy  4222  6 Started by  mr.goaliedad i am handling a claim where the insured had roof damage. The exterior is made of comp shingles. Underneath they found slate. The insureds city is requiring him to replace the roof with slate for historical issues. We paid the insured for replacing the comp shingles and slate that is considered an underlayment, but we applied 90 depreciation to it. This represents $1,000's of dollars and the insured is not happy. The was alot of interior water damage, which attests to the fact that the slate und...

1 Replies and 7139 Views Basic understanding of the HO3 policy  7139  1 Started by  host Forum Transfer: First posted by margar 9/20/2006 For new folks in the industry here is a site I have found that outlines the basic HO3 policy. While this may be mundane to some the 3 day license mills cannot possibly cover in detail the policy. This may be insightful so that the broad coverage forms can be accessed right from your laptop. It would probably be a benefit to all the newbies to save this site to their favorites. Note : This is a generic outline policy changes will vary depending on...

I have a question regarding the definition of the insured and under that definition who all is covered.  I am doing Cov A on a large fire loss.  Another adjuster is doing Cov C.  In this scenario, the Named insured, his Mother, and his "partner", are living in the house.  I know that the mother is covered, shes family.  My question is, are the contents of the "partner" covered  He is not a relative, or a spouse, and he is not under the age of 18...
