Take any estimate anywhere written by anybody.&160; Give it to 5 different adjusters to analyze and you will get 5 different estimates, 5 different reports, 5 different sets of pictures, 5 different everything.&160; There is no 'right' estimate.&160; Have 20 contractors scope the same loss and you will get 20 different bids and 20 completley different estimates.&160; This job is based on the opinion of the adjuster that is scoping the loss.&160; That is why he was hired to scope the loss. ...

6 Replies and 2285 Views Health Insurance review  2285  6 Started by  Joe60 &160; &160; I would appreciate the collective wisdom of the CADO readership with this problem. Unicare, my health insurance carrier, is no longer doing business in the state of Texas, after January 1st. I am in the process of reviewing my health insurance needs and options. BCBS has guaranteed coverage to existing Unicare customers, but in my case, at nearly double the cost. I am in reasonably good health and 49 years&160;of age, so I probably have options. I am leaning towards a higher dedu...

5 Replies and 2412 Views How would you solve this subrogation challenge?  2412  5 Started by  Leland I haven't started a topic in a long time, maybe we can start some new topics with problems adjusters run into and discussions on how to solve them. This is a fairly common problem, with a fairly simple solution that is often overlooked: You have adjusted the first party claim for Mrs. Smith, whose house was hit by a car insured by Acme insurance. You have made a subrogation demand against Acme for $8345.00 plus Mrs. Smith's $200.00, for a total of $8545.00. Acme has accepted liability but thre...

Rules of thumb with no validity should not be a part of our industry, The rule of three trades being necesary for a repair to cause the inclusion of Overhead and Profit on payment of a loss.&160;&160;I have been around campus for quite a few years and have usually applicd that logic to establishing the entitlement to the O&P provisions.&160; I challenge the old timers to show me where that logic originated or who originated it.&160; I seem to recall in past readings that a SF claims exa...

The IICRC, although their name doesn't seem to command much respect, is supposed to be the body who sets standards for water damage cleanup and restoration.&160; They have this manual, the IICRC S500 and IICRC S520 (for mold) that have laid out all of these industry tested standards and such.&160; Now talking daily claims here, I get lots of bills from water suckers who want to get policy limits for their steam vac bill (maybe a slight exaduration), but being able to argue with them and quote ...

9 Replies and 2808 Views I smell a Goldmine for PAs  2808  9 Started by  wscook A federal court ruling holding the Army Corps of Engineers, and the U.S. government by extension, liable for damage in New Orleans caused by Hurricane Katrina is unlikely to have much effect on the property-casualty industry, an Insurance Information Institute representative said. Speaking to NU Online, Loretta Worters, vice president of the I.I.I., said the industry has already paid out most of its Katrina-related losses, so the ruling should not impact insurers. But she said the ruling could...

14 Replies and 8611 Views False & Deceptive Advertising  8611  14 Started by  Ol' Ghost Here's a little something we can all enjoy sinking our teeth into. Have you noticed the new ad posted here on CADO by Insurance Recruiting Specialists, a division of Big Dawg Enterprises It's a repeat of their usual ' We have immediate openings' ad. Just for fun I called to see if they, indeed, had any openings and they said, 'No. The ad is just to draw in resumes'. Here's the rub. The ad specifically says they have immediate employment openings, yet they admit they do not. Something in the ba...

But to those of us whose living depends on the cattle market, selling cattle, raising the best beef possible... This is frustrating. This will keep us from ever stopping there again, even for a drink. The original message is from the Texas Cattle Feeders Association American cattle producers are very passionate about this. McDonald's claims that there is not...
