Is the Insurance carrier responsible for replacement of sheathing if it cannot be nailed to&160; I have a friend who's roof was totaled by the carrier.&160; When the roof was removed the sheathing was not rotted at all but was about 50 years old.&160; This was plank sheathing.&160; When the roofers tried to walk on it or nail it,&160; the sheathing would break due to brittleness.&160; Does the Insurance carrier have any responsibility for this&160; Thanks for any input, Doug

(Topic has multiple pages1 2 )
Risk location is a two story residence with 25 yr asphalt comp roof. Insured claims that a big fat man yelling 'ho ho ho' somehow landed a sleigh with 12 reindeer on the roof, damaging it. The reindeer hooves dislodged several shingles.&160; At the time the weather was calm with no wind. A neighbor witnessed the fat man trying to enter the chimney. He was unsuccesful, but the blocking of the chimney caused smoke to fill the entire interior. The actual sleigh did not cause any damage to the roof...

19 Replies and 5466 Views Deducting Roof Openings  5466  19 Started by  joesmith I have recently spoken with someone I have been helping who is just getting started in the business.  He is doing a few oveflow hail claims directly for a smaller regional carrier near his home.  He is being instructed to deduct  ALL  vent areas, skylights, and chimney openings without a SF threshold on re-roofs.  He also has been instructed not to add anything for dormers.  I suppose deducting the openings is techni...

This topic is not discussed in public forums much, but it has been going on as long as I have been in the profession. Workers Comp. Property Adjusters, Auto physical damage and Liability claims of all types come to mind as well as NFIP losses. NFIP watchs for trends by certain adjusters and send a few  adjusters to Federal prison over the lifetime of the program. In 2003 Texas Windstorm Insurance Association, hired an adjuster to check on some of their dedicated adjusters closed file...

6 Replies and 3747 Views Daily claims  3747  6 Started by  Bobabooey I am doing daily claims for a couple of companies, but I am not sure if they are even worth doing.  I find that if I get a few claims, they are hours away from each other.   Then I have supplements on older claims, have to get police reports, fire reports, have to get contents worksheets, have to reopen old claims for whatever reason.   At the end of the week, I have worked 40-50 hours and then get a 2 week check for $800.  Do any of you make good mo...

14 Replies and 4736 Views Claims pages censorship  4736  14 Started by  ebrooks You may be familiar with the Claims Pages--very useful, have tons of documents/forms, lots of jobs posted, etc. A funny thing about them is they have a list of 511 forbidden words. If you type one of these words in a post, it will come out as X's. For example, I wrote a post and used the word 'dope' at one point meaning 'information'--what's the dope or something like that. I was surprised to see it reduced to 'xxxx'. Obviously impeded communication. I wrote the editor, one Kay, who told me...

9 Replies and 3577 Views Any Different On Your Side Of The Fence?  3577  9 Started by  moco Hi every one, i am new to the world of claims adjusting (1.5 years) and work daily claims only for a small IA. I have yet to work any cats, however i have been doing some marketing lately for other IA's to work for, or better yet, fill the void. My search and exploration of other IA's have revealed several things to me, one being that when it is slow it is slow industry wide, or at least seems that way, and the other thing i have observed is that it appears to me that the handling of cat losses ...

2 Replies and 2816 Views Underinsured (again) in California?  2816  2 Started by  johnpostava There was an article in the NY Times yesterday where the reporter interviewed an insured whose home burned to the ground.  The article went on to say he was insured for approximately $230.00 a foot and preliminary bids were coming in from $350.00 to $500.00 a foot for a custom home like his. You would think after the Oakland fires companies would start valuing homes better on the front end.  Of course, if the agent would have valued this home at $500.00 a foot (and priced the premium ...

At the risk of being controversial, what has anyone learned from a PA that helped increase their knowledge Has a PA ever asked for something that you thought was bizarre and later you realized it was actually fair I know that on some claims, with some PAs, I have to be on my toes and thinking harder than usual. What is the most creative thing a PA ever asked for, that was ultimately appr...
