Poor quality report writing 30344 25
Started by Leland
I just wanted to put in my two cents on how to write better reports. Please check these two examples:
Example 1 (poor quality)
When I decided to go in the back door the homeowner said we should look in the room on the left and we went in there. The homeowner calls that office and there was water on the wall which I thought was from the plumbing leak. But then we walked out through the living room and went outside through the front door and discovered that the water outside was f...

Structural Engineering and Architectural fees 2377 6
Started by Leland
I am continuously surprised by the muddled thinking many adjusters have regarding the coverage of architectural and structural engineering services. When we have an earthquake in California this will become an issue and I think it deserves some thought. Adjusters who work in other states may be familiar with building departments that have very minimal requirements. That doesn't mean a California insured is not entitled to be compensated for something that would not be required in another state.

Adjusting material receipts from insureds 2209 0
Started by Leland
Many receipts, including those from Home Depot, have UPC code numbers.
The UPC code shown on the receipt can be Googled, or typed into this data base:
http://www.upcdatabase.com/itemform.asp
You may find that the resulting description and picture reveals a building material item that is consistent with the insured's claim for emergency repairs. You may be able to verify that the item is plastic sheeting, garbage bags, window screen material etc.
You may also discover that the item is a tool,...

Help/Suggestions re Estimating a major plumbing claim 4342 14
Started by Jwteer
Any help or suggestions re writing an estimate for the following COL would be much appreciated:
PH reported a clogged toilet. He tried to plunge to no avail. After the H2O eventually drained out, he flushed the commode. Upon doing that, dirty H2O came up through the shower drain. The shower is adjacent to the commode. After unsuccessfully using Liquid Plumber, he contacted a plumber who was only able to unclog the drain/pipe by using his pipe snake through the cleanout, which is located in his ...

'Made contact with the insured and set appointment for inspection. Closing report to follow within three days of inspection.'

Are the Insurance Carriers being short changed by IA's 3045 0

YES...... The vendor system in use charges as much for a catastrophe claim assigned to a person who is very capable to the other extreme. What would happen if the carrier did not pay the bill We all lnow many vendors do not pay the adjuster until they get paid. We all know this story. This is why these vendors are in business to get these type contracts.!
Please realize a major storm is no place for the 'other extreme'. A storm file should be graded by the carrier and a of the fee bill paid ...

Check List for 'what to ensure is in file' before turning it in 2528 1
Started by StormJockey
Here's a topic suggested a couple years ago but does not seem to have made any headway. This is going to be a fairly generic list, as most carrier's are specific, however, there are a lot of 'old timers' out there that could help us newbies improve our performance and keep some claims examiners from getting yet more gray hair. A list of a dozen or so things could be printed on both sides and laminated.
