If you get hurt while cat adjusting are you able to claim workers comp? 2808 7
Started by dnjsdad
First let me start by saying I was not hurt. However I know an adjuster who took a dive off a roof and he is now unable to work and will be out of work for 1 year until he is able to work. I have always been under the impression that you are on your own if you get hurt. However today someone told me that as an independent contractor your covered by workmans comp. is this correct. Looking forward to your replys.

Hi Everyone:
As some of you know Claim Adjustment Specialist from Dallas has its attorney send us a letter threatening a lawsuit and restraining order if we followed through on our threat to contact the carriers and the Department of Labor in TX and CT regarding outstanding invoices. According to the attorney (see my rate the employer post)in the past, in fact as recent as three months ago that is what CAS did against other adjusters who made the same threat we were making. Based on the plural ...

Perception of Public Adjusters??? 2991 8
Started by rlacour
I first worked as an independent adjuster on Hurricane Rita claims in Lake Charles. I am thinking of going to work as a public adjuster and have recently been licensed although have not gone to work yet. I was wondering about the perception of public adjusters from the viewpoint of the insurance companies, independent adjusters and also the insured.
Can anyone provide some insight into public adjusters
Thanks.

This is becoming a standard procedure all paramedics follow at the scene of an accident when they come across your cell phone.
ICE - 'In Case of Emergency'
We all carry our mobile phones with names & numbers stored in its memory but nobody, other than ourselves, knows which of these numbers belong to our closest family or friends.
If we were to be involved in an accident or were taken ill, the people attending us would have our mobile phone but wouldn't know who to call. Yes, there ar...

Insurance Journal raises post election changes for the industry.
Insurance Journal home page should the above link become inactive.
The Journal mentions with the changes in Washington and at the state levels we could see a new round of regulations.
With Warren Buffett's rise to the position in the minds of some as king maker and maybe even have a post in the Obama white house will we see more insurance regulating power moving from the states to the federal level

Mold case in Calif 2436 2
Started by sbeau4014
Below is a write up in the National Underwriter on a recent mold case that was decided in Calif. The plaintiff sued the carrier claiming that the remediation contractor's were agents of theirs, and also sued the remediation contractors for negligence in how they did their job, claiming that they did it incorrectly and cause mold/water damages. A different approach was tried and failed here. You want to talk about an exciting trial, can you imagine a trial talking about mold/wat...

WHO AM I
I like to describe myself as a moderate Independent. Many of my friends are moderate Republicans. We grew up together. Some of us went to school together. Some were well off and became better off with age. Some were poor and have done well as they grew older. However, we all seem to respect each others' opinions when it comes to politics. That is not true of the national scene of politics.

What is up with FEMA? 2640 7
Started by steph9176
I have a friend who has/had 3 rental houses on the beach in west Galveston. One is off in the ocean somewhere, another is clearly totalled, and another with minor mold damage and one patio torn off.
FEMA has yet to send an adjuster out for any of them. One FEMA adjuster called her a few weeks ago but no one has done an estimate of any kind.
How long do these people have it's a bit ridiculous it seems at this point. Is it always like this

This is a little frustrating, what kind of forum is this That is a retorical question.

Question for more experienced adjusters 2329 8

Hello all,
My IA firm is concluding its losses in the midwest and moving back to handle Gulf Coast claims.&160; I don't really want to go to LA and TX, as I'm only 4 hours from home here so my wife can come visit me when she has time.&160; I think they were expecting a lot of claims but I'm pretty sure the carrier has cut the firm off because about half of the adjusters they brought up were 'lolwut' quality.
I called around and another IA firm has claims in this area and is willing to work...

I find running first thing in the morning really helps me.&160; And if I can clear my mind a little, I am definitely a lot more productive all day.
