8 Replies and 2583 Views Question for more experienced adjusters  2583  8 Started by  DavidP Hello all, My IA firm is concluding its losses in the midwest and moving back to handle Gulf Coast claims.&160; I don't really want to go to LA and TX, as I'm only 4 hours from home here so my wife can come visit me when she has time.&160; I think they were expecting a lot of claims but I'm pretty sure the carrier has cut the firm off because about half of the adjusters they brought up were 'lolwut' quality. I called around and another IA firm has claims in this area and is willing to work...

1 Replies and 2161 Views BEWARE of Toxic chemicals and Toxins  2161  1 Started by  Tom Toll I have learned through friends of mine with the EPA and OSHA that there is some bad stuff in Galveston and several other areas on the Gulf. You should seriously consider getting a mask or better yet, a good respirator to wear while working in that area, until the air is clean again. I can assure you that it can damage your lungs, as I am a living example of that damage. My breathing problem started with Hurricane Andrew with Toxic chemicals around the aircraft&160; claims I initially was doing...

7 Replies and 3410 Views MAN WHAT IS THIS INDUSTRY COMING TO?  3410  7 Started by  Roy Estes Man what is this Industry Coming too Where a person with no experience can go to a persons home, and 'ADJUST' damages. I totally respect those who desire getting into this industry, however there definitely needs to be allot more attention paid to training and licensing issuance, I say this in the best interest of all Adjusters&160;fresh and seasoned!&160; I personally attended Vale many years ago, and I have also attended Intense training with&160;4 carriers thus far. And have worked th...

6 Replies and 2915 Views Don't Jump Ship  2915  6 Started by  Tom Toll I am getting some private messages asking what I thought about jumping the GUSTAV ship and boarding the IKE ship. DON'T DO THAT. If you have commited to a vendor for Gustav in La. then finish your commitment. I am sure there will be plenty of work for the Ike event for many months. If you do jump ship, just remember that vendor who you were working for will never trust your commitment again and in fact, may never call you again. Don't be a traitor, complete you commitment on any event you start....

6 Replies and 3198 Views VENDOR THROAT CUTTING  3198  6 Started by  Tom Toll I talked with a gentleman this morning that has several accounts that I handle claims for in Arkansas. He has a very livable schedule, (above average), and the companies expect professionalism on every loss. Most of them are commercial losses and they have kept me busy this year. He was going to Houston to work, but was notified that a vendor had cut his schedule in half. I guess there are enough newbies and old adjusters who will take this cut, but not me. This has become a vendor throat cutti...

6 Replies and 3333 Views Bad Faith Statutes  3333  6 Started by  sbeau4014 I wanted to start a thread for those working in LA and TX pertaining to knowledge of the bad faith statutes in both states and adherence to the time guides allowed by both.&160; I don't have all the details here with me and may expand on this later, but if someone does have them it would be helpful if they were published for all to read. Many of you will work for vendors and carriers that will go over all the statutes and time deadlines in your orientation, but there will be a chunk of you tha...

Lots of people must have gotten out of independant adjusting this year. Since Dolly almost every roster I signed up for has called asking me to be on call.&160; As most of you know, I took a job with a carrier about 10 months ago. I'm in worker's comp but I'm part of the Enterprise Response Team so I go out on Cat's. The other day I was adding it all up. As ERT with the cat pay and overtime with no personal expenses because thry are pai by the carrier, I think I actually come out better than b...

(Topic has multiple pages1 2 )
I have only been licensed for one year with a TX license and would like to get work experience.&160; Would it be smart to head to the storm and look for work there&160; I know that this is not the way it is done by experienced adjusters, or am I better to wait&160;and hope that someone calls me.&160; Please tell me what you think. Thanks, Jason
