I am just simply blown away!!!

Someone sent me Ray Hall's obituary that was in the newspaper recently and right about now I could be knocked down with a feather.

Does anyone know about this? I cannot pinpoint his last post but I thought it was really recent (like a few days or so) I have not heard anything on FOATA/CADO but this obituary which I have attached to this post came from Deb's site ClaimSmentor.

Someone once said in regards to Ray " that what claims knowledge Ray has forgotten over the years is more than what most adjusters could ever hope to learn in their entire career !!"

Ray was very opinionated(he earned that right) and a stubborn old buzzard, but I gotta say I loved that guy to pieces !!!!!!

How come nobody spoke about his passing? The industry just lost one of the greats !!

We have lost one of the great ones, I have been worried since he had stopped posting, and he will be missed.

    .....................................................................................................

I have known for some time he was suffering from Lung cancer, I am thankful his suffering is finally over but it's still , it doesn't make it any easier.

Forgive me but GOD DAMN IT PEOPLE!!! Ray died almost 2 weeks ago and NOBODY has not heard so much as a peep from anyone!! He deserves to be revered by his colleagues for his accomplishments, his contributions to the industry, how about that damn FICUS Tree. Ray Hall deserves acknowledgement as a human being and as an adjuster and as a .........FRIEND!!

I'm sorry to hear about the passing of Ray, he was a long time member of the adjusting community. My thoughts are with his family and friends. He will be greatly missed in the community and here on CADO, I know he enjoyed spending time in the forums and Chat rooms, he had a special way of looking at the problems faced by our industry and was always willing to share his thoughts and wisdom. I believe he would be happy to know that at the time of his passing many adjusters were working and perhaps using some of the information he had shared with the community. Rest in peace Ray.

Beginning back in '05 I had the occasional trading of emails, along with several forum debates and fortunately a few phone conversations with Ray (Trader, as he was then known here).  Whilst (borrowing that term from Robby) most didn't always agree with Ray, I think everyone understood that he was an old-school straight-shooter whose time had passed him by, but not necessarily for the right reasons.  In fact, exactly the opposite.  Also, I know we all got a lot of knowledge and chuckles out of all of his posts, typing skills (or lack thereof), and references to obsolete policy forms.  But Ray was always one to take it just as well as he could dish it out, and for that I appreciated him greatly.

It is disappointing that Ray's passing didn't come to our attention sooner, and it makes one wonder about this wandering life that we all lead, and whether our loved ones really know about the comrades (maybe acquaintances by web only) that we have out here on CADO.   Something to think about, huh?

R.I.P.  Mr. Hall, aka Trader..........I'm sure you have your Standard Fire Policy, FICUS Tree, and all those great memories of your family and career tucked carefully beneath your wings.   You are, and will be missed.

I have a computer services company as well as a daily claims company here in Southeastern Virginia. Irene has me swamped and this is the first time I have been on CADO in weeks.

My heart is heavy at the sight of this post.

I exchanged emails with Ray on several issues, including much back and forth on the FICUS tree. I develop software and would piont out where current software would be defiicient for the FICUS tree.

He was always informative, often argumentative, and made these forums an enjoyable read. At times it seemed he was the bulk of the posts.

I never met him face to face or even spoke to him on the phone, but I feel he has made me a better adjuster from his input over the years. In some ways, he was a mentor for me as well.

He is one of many people I have interacted (met?) over the internet that I considered a friend.

Rest in Peace, Mr. Hall. You are missed greatly.

This adjuster from Virginia is a better adjuster, and man, for having known you.

Since I also haven't been on CADO for awhile, I'm glad Mike Kunze called and told me about Ray. I'm not sure if there are any other adjusters in the U.S. that have been active adjusters since before I was in kindergarten. Ray may have been the only one. Sometimes it was hard to figure out what he was trying to tell us. But it was worth the effort trying to figure it out. I was glad to know him, if only through email exchanges. He treated me with respect, and I hope I responded in kind. Ray will definitely be missed by this adjuster.

This is the first I have been back on CADO for at least a couple of months due to a very high workload of commercial claims and just now read about Ray.  I don't think I have talked with him since I went over to Missouri in May and will sure miss his phone calls and the pleasant discussions with him on the phone and by email.  I feel bad that I did not know before now that he was so seriously ill the last time we did talk.  He did not let on and I did not know that his cancer had progressed to that stage.  I also regret not calling and meeting up with him the last time I was in Houston, and that is probably what bothers me the most.  It is too easy to get wrapped up with work and not take the time out to meet with friends.

I suspect that his ongoing calls and postings here were his way of dealing with his illness. He will difinitely be missed. Does anyone have a link to his obituary and the best way to send condolences to his family?

So sorry to hear of Ray's passing. He will be missed greatly. We have lost a voice of reason in a goofy world.

Ray Hall my friend and mentor, its taken me a little time to come up with in my humble opinion are the right words. Ray you made an impact on me. The way you would cut through the crap and give your coverage opinion. And yes, when I was just starting out, I thought your way was "not how things are done now". But as I grew in the bussiness and the years passed, I realized how wise you had become over the years since we first met. Everything you ever told me Ray was right, everything. You had the true understanding of the claims adjusting, and would share that freely with anyone that would listen. Those conversations we had during my windshield time, saved me a lot of grief.

I admire the way you faced the cancer with your head high and your chest out. I remember when you told me of your decision to go the Natural Medicine Route when the cancer you thought you had beat, came back with a vengence. Your concerns were not of yourself, but of your spouse and her being able to manage after your parting and your not wanting to put any more burdens on her that would be there after your passing. "Death Be Not Proud".

I cannot not say "its now come to conclusion", because your advice is memoralized through numerous articles on this site. Also with the many conversations that we had about adjusting over the year;s your input lives. I still want to call you and have not yet removed you from my cell phone and don't plan to in the near future. I like seeing the name Ray Hall. I won't say good bye my ol'friend, just see you later.

I'm a little blown away right now as I don't really post much but I tend to scan the posts several times a week. The highlight has always been seeing what ray had posted on. My first personal experience with ray was a few years ago when I was assigned my first Personal Liability Claim. (Not my area of expertise but I was working for the carrier and they asked me to work through it anyway). My first thought was to contact someone who could guide me through it and I contacted Ray. He was a great teacher and walked me through the claim to the very end. Even proofing my final draft. It turned out fine thanks to Ray. As tough as he sounded sometimes he was always genuinely eager to help someone that would listen. He was defenitely a mentor and he will be missed.

Where does time go. I sit here in disbelief. My friend Ray has done a double pull into his last claim in the Heavens. I can see him now convincing Saint Peter that insurance carriers in some states expand the scope of loss to include a condition that was discovered after a loss, that is not covered under the latent defect and other exclusions. This might not be word for word but to my defense it was after midnight and a few tall ones

I ran into Ray in 1996 and gain so much from just listening. I was many years his junior but would argue with him just to get more knowledge. We worked many storms together until Merle quit letting him go out. The world is a lessor place with out him. I can't believe he is gone and has been for over a year and I didn't even know. Everyone that reads this needs to reach out to a few old colleagues in the business and just check up on them. Life is too short

Ray RIP see ya on the other side

Are you kidding, he's probably got God talked into using the "Ficus Tree" by now.
