I have used Delorme for years and years.  Nice big screen on the old laptop, updates through the internet, all the stuff.

However,  I just bought a used Magellan on Craigslist for 1/3 of a new one and have been playing with it for a day or two.  Pretty sporty.

I don't think I could see much detail on a Blackberry screen.  I really am old and feeble and forgetful and hard of hearing and ........................

    What was that??       Speak up!

I've been working with mine for a few months months, accuracy and image quality for suburbs have been as good as I get on-line.
Rural areas I'm not getting images that I would on-line, I haven't tested downtown.
Directions are good but the don't updated in real-time like Garmin - this might make it a challenge to use while driving in areas with street signs blown away.
Using it while driving would be like text messaging - not safe in my opinion.
I just saw portable GPS at OfficeMax sub $150 I think I'd invest in purpose built tool like that if I needed serious tool.

I don't have the GPS feature on my Blackberry (use Delorme-Laptop mounted to Van) but really appreciate the E-mail features on the Blackberry. I don't need it to do more than be a great phone, Email, web browser.

Keep your Garmin, and if you need and want the E-mail features, that would be the reason for the Blackberry, it is bulletproof Email and so simple to set up. You basically type in your E-mail address on the keypad and you are done. It leaves your desktop E-mail alone (doesn't pull it off the server) so it acts like a mirror of what you are getting in your office. I set my "real" computer up to leave Email on the server for a couple days before deleting messages, to make sure I get a mirror image on my Blackberry if I am on the road that day.

DeLorme and Streets and Trips, I use DeLorme more as I am used to it. I run it on an older lap top in the truck. Incredible. Them little screens are just too little, way too little.

USED DELORME SINCE 1995, ALWAYS WORKED FINE. BUT AFTER HAVEING 2 LAPTOP STOLEN FROM THE TRUCK IN NOLA DECIDED TO CHANGE DIRECTIONS.

NOW USE A MAGELLAN IN THE TRUCK AND WORKS FINE, ALSO USE THE bLACKBERRY GPS , WORKS GREAT,

My blackberry has been fickle even on days that are clear, without overhead obstructions, and when I have a good signal. Dave, does yours ever just not work?

The new G1 Google phone with service from T-Mobile provides access to Google maps and has GPS. Additionally there is a Google store where third party applications can be downloaded.

T-Mobile is pushing down an OTA upgrade named R-33, for the G-1, which should be complete in within 30 days. Then Google has a revision of the Android O/S named Cupcake that should follow in short order. Changes make this phone amazing.

The down side is that the battery is not what it should be, at this point, I am sure that batteries with more capacity will be available soon.

From what I read there are phones in the pipeline that are 10x more amazing that this G-1 and the Apple I phone. Just wait till 2010.
