Not ethical-hmm 2081 1

Regular claims and cat. claims are alike, but not the same. Many cat. vendors enforce the rule of no kick backs including lunch or drinks with contractors is grounds for instant termination. {all for good reasons}. As a staff and local IA for many years who worked only regular claims/losses in my home city it was common practice to go to legal seminars on new law put on by the large defense lawyers who did insurance work one time a year for most of the CE credits need to renew your license. The ...

&160;Quote from recent article concerning TWIA lawsuits.
'At this week’s Oversight Committee on the Texas Windstorm Insurance hearing, Jim Oliver, Director of TWIA, testified that 92,000 claims from Hurricanes Dolly and Ike were filed since the storms hit two years ago. Of those, 4,800 lawsuits have been filed and 2,600 have been settled.
Seven hundred disagreements arose due to the issue of whether wind or water caused the damage to the slab. The remaining 4,100 were characterized as c...

This was a meeting for lunch back in the 'mold gold days (2002) about 50adjusters were in Houston and had a meeting at Hooters. I was over on side with about 10 and a young man from Arkansas told us about the house and contents that was so eat up with mold it had to be destroyed. He heard the carrier put the house and contents on a barge and dumped it many miles out to sea in the Gulf of Mexico. We did not ask for his contact number..... just backed up 25 feet.

Satellite Roof Measures 6352 9
Started by jblaiser413
Just a heads up, I recently tried a new up-and-coming satellite imaging company called Roofwalk based in Minnesota. All I can say is stay away! They are slow, and when they fail to give results, they will charge you anyways without a refund. No good, and frustrating to say the least.
My best results have been from GeoEstimators, then maybe Eagleview....but Geo is cheaper.
Any other recommendations out there..post it here.
Thx~

UNREPAIRABLE? 9875 22
Started by Stormkat
Does anyone know if there is an accepted standardized test for brittleness to determine repairability&160; If there is an accepted method for testing I would love to know by whom, where&160; and what it is.
I am already familiar with the 4' or 6' lift test to see if they will fracture.&160; However, this is not a recognized accepted means of testing unless it has been published or documented as such that I am unaware of.
Thank you,
StormKat

Deductible Consistancy 2820 7
Started by Ray Hall
This post will question the auto and property&160; claim departments with the same company to say it 'just depends on each case' . Hmm... lets take the property department first. An insured has a HO-3 and has minimum roof damage from a small windstorm loss that is less than the deductible. It is inspected and the insured is advised the loss does not exceed the deductible amount for windstorm; therefore no payment will be forthcoming... this is repeated several thousand time each day as we are a...

&160;Commercial insurance Hello everyone I hope that everybody is doing well in this time of slow storms. I know that we are strong in numbers and some have more connections than others (not looking for a handout) but merely information. My family has a billiard, restaurant, daiquiris business and they are complaining that the prices have almost doubled in costs for the same coverage of insurance. If anyone knows of a carrier new or old makes no difference. Just looking to give them a l...

Sample of recorded statement for claimant 21816 16

Hi everyone.
I have just been given my first assignment to take a R/S from the claimant and witness by an independent company. Does anyone know where I can find a sample R/S that I can follow I used the search engine on this site but did not see anything I could use. I also tried to look under the documents on claimspages.com but nothing there either. A google search yielded more lawyer websites telling people how to avoid R/S than actual insurance websites. ...

Mr. Smith wants to sell his building with owner financing. He sets up an escrow account and the buyer, Mr. Johnson, makes monthly payments to it. Mr. Smith uses those funds to keep writing checks to his bank. The bank is not told that there is a new buyer/occupant. Neither is the insurance Co. A fire causes damage to the building. Mr. Johnson makes a claim even though his name is not on the policy. The adjuster explains to Mr. Johnson that he is not a named insured. Mr. Smith decides to file the...

Almost everyone agrees that non-metallic sheathed cable (romex) that has been submerged in salt water needs to be replaced as the paper wrap around the ground wire wicks corrosive salt water up several feet into the wiring system. As an electrician, I've seen systems work compromised with some degree of water for many years. It's not the best situation, but pretty common in commercial and industrial installations.
Shortly after becoming an adjuster, a FEMA inspector friend o...

In 1970 three of us rented a 3 bedroom unfurnished house in Corpus Chisti, Tx for a large hurricane. Two of us had houses in the island town of Port Aransas that was almost wiped out by wave wash and wind. We furnished the house with all the beds and 'stuff' we found on the beach. The prize was a RCA color TV that worked for months before it croaked in a puff of smoke. Many people who have flood losses still use this system, clean, sun dry and use until it puffs. Thats why NFIP requires serial n...

How dumb is dumb? 2251 1

I was hanging out at the courthouse yesterday and heard a story I had to share. An insured gave a EUO to a major insurance carrier concerning a fire loss. Nothing in the EUO really hurt the insured as far as the fire claim went. However, this guy was so dumb he admittrd to committing three different felonies during the EUO and didn't realize it. The carrier and their SIU unit turned the EUO over to the local prosecutor. Needless to say I'm pretty sure this guy is going to get nailed.
