Not so easy as that......I wish it was.  I live in a heavy foreclosure area and want those force placed claims....they're out there, but where????????

Find out who are the forced insurance players in your area, call them ask who handles claims for them. No?

The IA group i work for  handles primarily Assurant forced place, and has since i started. As matter of fact i have worked all of this time 98% forced place and the other small amount actual HO policies. That is a question i have been trying to get answered. Where are all of the vandalism, theft, fire and neglect reported as whatever losses we used to handle month end and out? The latter part of 2009 and currently into this new year has been veeeeery slow. I mean bad, i.e, maybe 2-3 small paying assignments a month. I spoke with a staff adjuster a while back, and he says that they have been redirecting their focus from residential foreclosures to commercial foreclosures, due to the large amount of foreclosed residential homes. And if you have no commercial experience you will be passed up for work. Another source says he heard (only heard) that the carriers are still getting losses reported from TPA's etc., but believe they will sit on the properties until a larger event happens. I dunno

I second that, it is not that easy. I have been looking, calling for months only to be told "It's slim pickings here also".

The IA work on daily losses is as competative as any IA. work. Many of the people who go after this work cut the rates to get the work and your vendor seems to be drying up. I have known a few old timers over the years that work direct and cut the vendor out, but whats the story about biting the hand that feeds you.......ever one knows the competition and the word gets out.....

i worked assurant for a while, and know some adjusters that handle pirmarily Assurant files. It is hit and miss with some months that are excellent and some that are slow. But I assure you the work is out there, it's just you are not getting it. :)

Regarding forced place insurance. I know staff adjusters for one of the large forced place companies and over the past year their work has dropped off.  We used to do claims for them and our work dried up as they could travel a wider area with their decrease in claims. It may be that the carriers are now telling the lenders the coverage is now based on the market value instead of the loan amount, much larger deductibles and policies canceled as the amount paid in previous claims exceed the market value by todays standards.  This along with taking the commercial risks vs the residential and you have a perfect storm for fewer claims.

Ray is right on the money as always when he said that the firms who go after this work have cut the rates to get the work and vendors are dying on the vine. Too many firms, too many people with licenses and too little work makes for a very bad time.

Whatever the reason, or mixture of reasons, i am quickly burning out. Day in day out worryiing when and if anything will be sent to me. If i was a betting man i would put alot on me being done for good with claims handling in the next year, or sooner. However, with the economy the way it is there is not much else happening to become involved in that will pay a decent living wage.

If Assurant gets a steady rate of 35 or so claims for several months, a staff field position is created- or, the firm just strangely stops seeing claims in that area.

I say strangely, because it is clear that the IA firm was doing decent work with the amount of claims they keep getting elsewhere.

to the topic of staff salary

That job sure sucks- 75% travel with that pay?...  However, for the one that lands it, it would be a terrific 'pay your dues' type of position to develop job security as an IA.

Or, another firm is getting the work!! But, the firm i work with has a very low cap off rate.  And the standard billing up to the max amount seems more than reasonable. I just don't know how or who could do it any cheaper. Only mn charge applies if no estimate is completed.

Many good adjusters would cut their bill to get 50 week a year work and sleep at home ever night.

Me to, if only i could find the work. I have hunted hard for more work , with emphasis on the day claims because they should be out there. I expect cat work to have down time, but i know well with all of the foreclosures that people are breaking in stealing copper, HVAC units and appliances. Not to mention those properties still occupied.

Last year i was all over the Southeast handling these types. No way have these losses just suddenly stopped.

Whoever said general adjusters make 100+ is mistaken. Most don't make near that much .I talk to one almost everyday. He makes approx 75k.

You are either a storm adjuster or you are a stay at home adjuster, you cant be both unless you work for some carrier direct that will allow you to do this. At my age I found someone that trusted me do "stay at home". and I will.

Where did the staff guy go? He was telling us about 100k a year.... It was so sweet to hear.... Them carriers are lucky for now, no mega or sizable CATs for now. But comes fall and a hurricane hits, they will be begging for help, hiring ppl from the street and paying files without even looking at them. Business as usual :)

I'm back. Been busy working with the California claims and the smaller wind in the south over the weekend.

65 daily - I'm guessing you're not that bright. If you read most of the thread you'd see that staff catastrophe adjusters also get a bonus. Not sure how Liberty Mutual works but bonus is typically between $25-40k (various factors) thus that makes that position $80k on the low and over $100k on the higher end. Not too bad considering you get a vehicle, expenses paid, 401k and all the other benefits/bells & whistles.

Bobabooey - A true general adjuster generally only handles claims with $1m and greater damages/exposure and handle 10-15 a year. Those make $100k+. Many different classifications out there thus all generals aren't true generals; just like our military.

Olegred - you are right. We will need IA's in a mega event. Companies normally exclude mega event numbers from all their staffing/performance models.
