I went back and read my posting of December 29 and may have made a couple of errors in my dissertation.

The companies that seem to find a way to not pay the hold-back will continue to do so. The companies that hire many adjusters to make the initial contacts and then pull files for some reason or another will continue to do so. The companies that seem to have problems paying the adjusters and only do so after many months of arguing and threat of lawsuit will continue to do so.

It would behoove us to continue to post and name the companies that do well and the companies that don't.

We are all adults here and can determine the veracity of the remarks on our own.

And, we need in encourage envolvement in this website by the multitudes. I've looked back at the postings of the past few weeks and it seems that a small group is doing nearly all the posting.

Let's all have a Happy New Year.

All together now..........................Koom-by-aa, Koom-by-aa.............................................(group hug)

Larry is correct about this. We will not survive if we do not speak out, with the truth. There are many hits on this web site, but as Larry said, only a small number of people post. I have always emphasized the need for more to get involved with posting. Lets start out the new year with new posters. Don't be afraid to post, just give thought to what you post and be concise.

From another thread, "I, for one, resent those who have been making our profession look like a haven for snake oil salesfolk." The author will recognize the words. I just don't think that Marc's problems are generally representative of the quality of adjusters in this industry. I work with intelligent, dedicated, knowledgeable adjusters and would have no trouble in putting a team of 20 together. People with 20 plus years of multi-line experience, licensed in several states, NFIP certified, Xactimate certified, Haag roof certified, law degrees, MBA's, years of construction experience, IT experience. People with work ethic and morals, people that I trust implicitly.

In my view 04, 05 and 08 are the best thing that could have happened, specifically, to our industry. Not only did my fellow adjusters and I make money I saw companies revamp their operating procedures, some fell by the wayside and others survived and upgraded to meet the challenge should the same situation arise in the future.

2009 could be a repeat of 2004 and if it is everybody that survived 2004, business wise, will be better prepared.

What does not destroy me, makes me stronger.

Back in the day, this site was always buzzing with open debate and the sharing of ideas. Is anyone working the storms up north? I'm ready to get out of the house again.

Chuck how many people did you actually put to work this year? Maybe your connection to qualified folks is better than mine . I can tell you however after thirty five years in this business that the snake oil salesman pushing the three day wonders are alive and well. Unfortunately contrary to you I ended up with some of them .Also saw resumes from totally unqualified folks that that hyped themselves otherwise. If you're not going to hire those twenty people send them my wayI'll put them to work.

I know that there are "snake oil salesman" out there. And I did not mean to convey that everyone I work with is always prepared to do a top notch job. That is why a group of us work together. When one of our group got sick his work did not suffer, he pulls his weight in the group and the group rearranged and pulled his weight when he needed it. When several of the group opted out we rearranged work assignments and wished them well. No one works directly for me, we are independent adjusters. Independent adjusters that work as a group. I call the group Loosely Associated Adjusters, at one time there were 12 here, in Houma, LA, with 6 motor homes and associated gear. Several others opted to work Ike further north. But, the entire group would total 20 with 11 motor homes. All of the front line adjusters have verifiable credentials.

As you can see, a sizable outlay on our part. Send me verifiable details regarding work, the details of what you need, what certifications, what licenses, what equipment, guaranteed length of job, location, type of work and how you guarantee pay, contracts, E & O, Workers' Comp, back ground checks, estimating software, etc. and I will inform the group. Everyone will need to "know before they go". Generally speaking we work on T & E at guaranteed EGA rates, paid by direct deposit on the 1st and the 15th.

Gentlemen, this shows a character flaw issue in general. I have several wind adjusters who ask me to guide them into the flood side of the insurance business. I have not taken any yet and I can tell you when I do; they will learn the meaning of a good file along with a concise l narrative. I was taught and I have a commitment to produce work that is on a higher level. It is sad to hear of troubles such as this. When will people learn you actually have to do extra ordinary work to obtain extra ordinary pay.
