Know the true value of time; snatch, seize and enjoy every moment of it. No idleness; no laziness; no procrastination; never put off till tomorrow what you can do today
Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.

Obstacles in life are like logs in your path. You can step over it or move it out of the
way, or you can cut it up and make firewood.

When you face your fear, most of the time you will discover that it was not really such a big threat after all. We all need some form of deeply rooted, powerful motivation - it empowers us to overcome obstacles so we can live within our dreams and goals. Do you know what your goal in life is?2

Hope is like a road in the country; there wasn't ever a road, but when many people walk on it, the road then comes into existence.

Every decision you make, literally every decision, is not a decision about what to do. It's a decision about Who You Are.  When you see this, when you understand it, everything changes. You begin to see life in a new way.  All events, occurrences, and situations turn into opportunities to do what you came here to do, live life to its fullest.

The world cares very little about what a man or woman knows;
it is what the man or woman is able to do that counts.

One evening an old Cherokee told his grandson about a battle that goes on inside people.
He said, "My son, the battle is between the two "wolves" inside us all.

One wolf is Evil - It is anger, envy, jealousy, greed, arrogance, resentment, lies, false pride, and ego.

The other wolf is Good - It is joy, peace, love, hope, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion and faith."

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked, "Which wolf wins?"

The old Cherokee replied, "The one you feed."

Choose well my friends.

MENTAL ACUITY

1. You are what you eat, and that includes your brain.

If you’re feeling sluggish midday, boost your serotonin with a small dose of carbohydrates, such as fruit or an energy bar. Also, drink lots of water. A craving for sugar can be the initial stages of dehydration. While out making any kind of inspection during the heat of the summer, have bottles of water available to drink and several energy bars. Keeping the fluids going keeps the mind going.

2. Think positive, loving thoughts; it is easier than you might imagine.

When you're feeling love and compassion, your brain goes into action – connecting and building new circuitry at high speed.  Spending just 10 minutes a day focusing on feeling love and kindness can make you smarter – and happier.

3. Don’t be a slave to technology.

To keep sharp, resist the urge to check messages continually. Instead, schedule blocks of time throughout the day to retrieve and respond to them. E-mails and texting throughout the day just slows your mental acuity. Juggling technology is detrimental to a good workday. Don’t allow technology to control your life. Learn your estimating systems so they are second nature to you.

4. Physical exercise can boost a brain as well as brawn.

Exercise boosts circulation and bolsters brain-nurturing chemicals that improve your creativity, reaction time and retention. Walking is a good form of exercise. If your soul mate is with you, regular sex is a wonderful exercise and creates a form of euphoria.

5. Never underestimate the power of a good night’s rest.

Lack of sleep also results in reduced productivity and increased errors. Everyone should block out eight hours of sleep, Tough to do when you're on a cat assignment, but consider short naps during the day. Rest will help you be more productive.

6. Put your mind to work in the right way.

Mental exercise is important, too. Using your brain to learn a new language, master a new hobby or engage in friendly debate stimulates blood flow and strengthens the connections (synapses) between nerve cells in the brain. It may even reduce age-related memory loss. Knowledge is indeed Power and can help you keep your memory.

People who are unable to motivate themselves must be content with mediocrity, no matter how impressive their other talents.

In 1960, I was fortunate enough to get a music scholarship from Henderson State Teachers College after graduating from Wentworth Military Academy JC College. Prior to admission, I was asked by the music director if I would like to go on a USO tour with Bob Hope. I, of course, leaped on this opportunity. We traveled to many bases in many countries as the opening band for his performances, an experience that opened my eyes to many things. Bob Hope was a pure American and in my opinion, a saint. He told me that anyone can achieve anything they want to if they just motivated themselves to do so. I lived by his advice and have been successful my entire life. My Father also gave me this advice. Bob Hope was the most caring, unselfish human being I have ever met.

I suggest you watch this u-tube video and learn from it. Give of yourself and you will receive.

1. Write down your vision for your life and career.
Be as specific as you can. Hopefully you have a vision of what you want in your life.

2. Know your WHY.
Why is this vision significant to you? What do you hope for? What is the bigger reason for your vision? Your why is your purpose and you must know it because vision without purpose is like trying to drive to New York without the gas to get you there. Purpose fuels your vision and it fuels you. Write down your WHY.

3. Read your vision and your "why" statements each morning.
Remember if you keep your vision alive it will keep you alive.

Anyone who takes himself too seriously always runs a risk of looking totally ridiculous. If you can laugh at yourself, you will not look ridiculous, but human.

Every achiever that I have ever met says, "My life turned around when I began to believe in me." In order to be successful in any business, one must believe in one's self. If you don't, no one else will.

For those who never saw the Burma shave signs, here is a quick lesson in our history of the 1930s and '40's. Before the Interstates, when everyone drove the old 2 lane roads, Burma Shave signs would be posted all over the countryside in farmers' fields. They were small red signs with white letters. Five signs, about 100 feet apart, each containing 1 line of a 4 line couplet and the obligatory 5th sign advertising Burma Shave, a popular shaving cream. Here are more of the actual signs:

DON'T LOSE YOUR HEAD
TO GAIN A MINUTE
YOU NEED YOUR HEAD
YOUR BRAINS ARE IN IT
Burma Shave

DROVE TOO LONG
DRIVER SNOOZING
WHAT HAPPENED NEXT
IS NOT AMUSING
Burma Shave

BROTHER SPEEDER
LET'S REHEARSE
ALL TOGETHER
GOOD MORNING NURSE
Burma Shave

SPEED WAS HIGH
WEATHER WAS NOT
TIRES WERE THIN
X MARKS THE SPOT
Burma Shave

THE MIDNIGHT RIDE
OF PAUL FOR BEER
LED TO A WARMER
HEMISPHERE
Burma Shave

AROUND THE CURVE
LICKETY-SPLIT
ITS A BEAUTIFUL CAR
WASN'T IT?
Burma Shave

NO MATTER THE PRICE
NO MATTER HOW NEW
THE BEST SAFETY DEVICE
IN THE CAR IS YOU
Burma Shave

A GUY WHO DRIVES
A CAR WIDE OPEN
IS NOT THINKIN'
HE'S JUST HOPIN'
Burma Shave

AT INTERSECTIONS
LOOK EACH WAY
A HARP SOUNDS NICE
BUT ITS HARD TO PLAY
Burma Shave

BOTH HANDS ON THE WHEEL
EYES ON THE ROAD
THAT'S THE SKILLFUL
DRIVER'S CODE
Burma Shave

THE ONE WHO DRIVES
WHEN HE'S BEEN DRINKING
DEPENDS ON THE CAR
TO DO HIS THINKING
Burma Shave

CAR IN DITCH
DRIVER IN TREE
THE MOON WAS FULL
AND SO WAS HE.
Burma Shave

PASSING SCHOOL ZONE
TAKE IT SLOW
LET OUR LITTLE
SHAVERS GROW
Burma Shave

Deadly thoughts
About lights that shine
If he won't dim his
Then I won't dim mine
Burma Shave

And the all time favorite:

Don't stick your arm
Out the window too far
It might go home
In another car
Burma Shave

Do these bring back memories?? If not, you are such a child. If they do, you're older than dirt, like me! I remember those sign very distinctly while my parents were driving from California to Arkansas several times and times were good then. Maybe Burma Shave needs to start that again.

When you want to encourage a greater sense of responsibility in others (and yourself), emphasize the anticipation of accomplishment, not the penalties for failure.

None of us were put on this planet to be ordinary. Accomplishing that which you want to accomplish just gives you that "WOW", I really did it feeling.

W working

O on

W winning
