I have a question for your organization regarding what my instructors had told me down in Texas when I was taking my all lines adjusters class recently.  They said that there is a growing need for adjusters that scuba dive.  I thought that was interesting because that is on of my hobbies.  If I had a chance of making a job out of it, that would be pretty sweet.  If you have any insight on this subject it would greatly be valued.  Thank you for your time.

With scuba gear we could have done those flood inspections in NOLA a couple of weeks earlier.

Did your instructor mention what kind of claims would be handled by scuba divers?  I would think that other special equipment would be needed to measure underwater and record the scope.  Somehow, I can't see a tape measure and clipboard being too effective.

Is it claims for sunken boats or flooded houses?  I know one insurance company who would be interested in the salvage on an $8,000.00 diamond ring at the bottom of a famous lake (which will remain nameless).

Years ago, many years ago, I did scuba work on the Arkansas river checking for underwater damage to tugs and barges that had been involved in underwater damage accidents. I had a friend who did scuba work in Florida on marine losses, sunken hulls and hull damage on large luxury watercraft. There is a market for that work, but I have lost contact with all the folks I did my work for. You might check with some marine surveyors in Florida or coastal states to see if your scuba work could be utilized.

Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.

Hubby and I both dive and this type of work would not be for fun. David has worked some with a local fire department in the Fort Worth area in recovery, fortunately not bodies, and the visibility is typically terrible and there is often exposure to hazardous chemicals including gasoline and diesel fuel, etc. especially in the environ of ships and boats that have been sunk. A diver would have to be prepared to wear a full wet suit with hood, or a dry suit, and be able to have it decontaminated. Photography is not a problem with the underwater cameras available now and measurements would not be necessary, just document the area of damage & check for other possible causes, like intentional damage and confirm registration # on the boat.

As far as structures under water, like those in NOL, the contaminants would be potentially very hazardous and I think a diver would be crazy for getting in the water under those conditions. We are talking about human remains, and those you do not want to encounter. Talk to any recovery dive team with a fire department.
