I'm taking the NC couse at this time to get my adjuster license. Looking into auto to start due to my background in a service department and body shop. Last year as a service advisor my income was near 40k can I expect to make more after a few years of experience as an adjuster. I do not have a 4 yr degree but have a total of about 10 yrs customer service and work history in the auto industry, is there a chance of me landing a job with an insurance company or will I be best to go independant..If I were to go independant where and how do I get started..Any other info for interested newbie would be appreciated...

    Thanks

    Stacy,

You can make double or maybe even triple last year's income, IF there is work and IF you find a vendor that will hire you. Right now there are more IAs than claims. You could also starve. You could make less as an IA!! It all depends on the weather. Many of the larger carriers are staffing up and looking to use fewer or no IAs. Have you seen St Farm's ad on the Weather Channel touting their 2500 full-time CAT staff? Farmers Insurance Group is doing it, too. Last year I got several calls every time there was even a hint of an impending event, did not get deployed once. If you had started on this career change a year ago, you'd be broke, starving and wondering why you ever decided to do it. There is no steady paycheck in this business, know that going in. One month you may be making $20-25k, for the next 6-8 months nada, zip, nothing. If you have dependents to support, think three times about this.

    Robert,

You ask some good questions.  You are welcome to ask them if you ask them in the training forum under the community forums section of CADO.  You are also likely to find your questions answered in great detail in the forum archives.

Since we no longer allow questions about getting started in the Catastrophe Central area of this website, I am locking this thread.

Don't take this personally.  You are welcome to ask the same questions in the getting started and training area of the community forums.
