Does anyone out there know of a decent group policy we can get added to?  Or does anyone know of a good individual plan that will allow for coverage where ever we go for work?  My cobra from my Staff Adjusting position is running out and I am trying to find a replacment.  Thanks,

    EW

You may wish to look into the "National Association of Self Employed".

We have tried for almost 10 years to find a carrier, TPA or broker that would offer the Cat adjuster some life, health, disability, dental, vision or any kind of covereage. So far we have struck out. Perhaps when there is a true association these things will become a reality.

We use Blue Cross / Blue Shield, $5000 deductible, runs us about $115 per month per person. It has worked for us. And believe me, any hospital will negotiate with you on that deductible.

Here is Health insurance website to play with. No obligation, good company (my wife is insured with them, after our COBRA ran out). I work this side when not working claims.

They have both long term, short term, individual and family plans. You can pick and choose coverages. If you have any questions, please email me. I also have access to disability insurance etc.

While I was an agent, I dealt a little in group health. In my opinion an individual policy is the way to go unless your employer contributes a part of the premium. I never saw a "group discount". I dealt with Blue Cross primarily for health. They had a good basic no frills policy which was easy to sell and my clients liked. They also very low cost dental plan that is identical to my wifes plan at her work, for about the same $.

In a group plan the cost is averaged throughout the group, ie the 20 year old pays the same as the 50 year old. Great deal for the 50 year old, not so much for the 20 year old. If you have a young healthy group, you may get a good rate. If you take a look around at the next seminar or gathering of our peirs, I don't believe cat adjusters will fall into the "good risk" group. At least that been my experience, my buissiness was primarily P&C but I did have a few groups.

I like Tims BCBS with a high deduct, I sold a lot of those.

    Just my opinion

Since the discussion is re: insurances, lets not forget Disability Insurance. We are more likly to become disabled than die, if under 65.

AND women are 3 x more liklely than men to lose their income as result of disability.

He is correct, it happened to me at age 58 after looking into Social Security benefits I did find the stats on the chance of not reaching retirement versus disability.

If you want info and prices on DI, go to this no obligation website. This company (Illinois Mutual) has a great reputation and will cover field adjusters. You can get a quote. It will not ask your name or email address.

If you need help, email me. Off to NACA next week. Copy and paste address below.
