On the sales page for Xactimate 28 they have the following listed...

    Properties for Construction Assemblies
Quickly estimate complex construction assemblies such as floor systems, roof systems, joist systems, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, decks, fences, and much more by using Xactimate properties.
The Sketch feature makes it fast and easy to draw the structure; Properties makes it lightning fast to estimate assemblies in the structure. For example, if you sketch a dormer, you can click a Properties icon to estimate the dormer. Xactimate does all the work for you and automatically enters all the needed items into your estimate. You can easily modify the items included by changing the properties. Many assemblies that used to take hours to estimate can now be estimated in minutes or even seconds with Properties.

Does anyone know what they're talking about / how to utilize this?  For example, I'm working a desk gig right now and I have a kitchen that was damaged pretty severely with water.  The electrician turned in a bid that says things like, "rewire electrical for range" "require electrical for range hood" etc.

Is Xactimate talking about some kind of feature that will calculate the necessary wiring, plumbing, HVAC, etc based on the room sketch?  If so, any idea how it works?

I do it because I want to provide a better life for my family than my parents could provide for me.

    MBradbury,
If you create a room in Sketch, the property window popup will allow you to select framing, footings, walls by type, such as framed, concrete or CMU. If you select some or all of these, it will populate the estimate with line items that reflect the room size and construction ( If you deselect these, the line items go away also.)

You can further populate the estimate using pre-built macros from the search/macro window in the estimating tab. There are macros for plumbing, electrical, etc.

I caution anyone using macros to be judicious in their use, lest you simply automate your errors.

I appreciate your follow-up.  I was familiar with what you were talking about, and I think their sales pitch is more hype than reality.  Thanks!
