A company located near Bangkok, Marvel, manufactures hard drive controllers and is flooded. Marvel controllers are used in the majority of the computers manufactured in the world.

An adjuster located near Little Rock, Chuck Deaton, writes posts on commercial loss scenarios . But Deaton does not ask a coverage question.

    Question:

If a Texas manufacturer of automotive radar detectors loses sales because they can't get computer chips from their Thai supplier, could they have a covered loss under their commercial policy?

Yes or No? Please explain your answer.

I believe Chuck's talking about a potential claim in Thailand- not the US. If his curiosity was prompted for the same reason mine was, it was because there have been tangible offers to deploy adjusters to handle losses overseas.

A coverage exercise on a policy written for a Thailand entity would be futile until he actually has his hands on the policy. Additionally, coverage review on the language that may theoretically be in the given manuscript policy and its endorsements would be futile; full of 'what-if's'.

I think Chuck just wanted to show off his brand new auto-signature.

Actually, my intent was to possibly fortell a shortage and/or a price increase in laptops and desktops. In the back of my mind there is a question about contingent business interruption claims.

No doubt there will be claims for losses occurring in America due to flooding in Thailand.

I actually spoke to Chuck about claims in the USA before I posted my question, I was hoping someone might run with the overlooked topic of CBI claim adjusting.

Insureds with the right CBI endorsements will be paid. These claims will probably be concentrated in the computer and auto industries.

Personally I am more interested in going to Thailand than handling CBI claims in the USA.
