I am one of these older adjusters(now retired) that thinks its like all jobs; the top 10% makes most of the $. If you are aperson that has been called out on one or two storms and not invited back the 2nd time, it,s not your calling.
Each adjuster is graded by the vendor and most important the carrier and invited back on a if needed basis. All persons can work on their weak points. Physical/personal/presentation. Reports, estimates, self starting, people skills. Have a co-worker/ wife check all your reports for spelling, grammer , photo labels and other flaws before submitting.
Thousands of good adjusters work each year and you need to impove each year. Many cat. adjusters work for venders that request THEM by their SS#. Try to be in this group and its about 10% of all the cat. adjusters. This 10% get the real problem claims to work along with the real vanilla claims that are about 90% of all catastrophe calims.
The assignments follow this outline:"Adjuster this is so and so with so and so and I have a special assignment for you to work to conclusion. I will send a copy of all the prior work in this file. When you need to ask a question or discuss this file call..... so and so. You do all the work and work up a plan, the4n call so and so to discuss. Work out the settlement with parties and then call your contract so and so. "OK it,s done and the report is coming in close your eyes and hold your nose. You will always have plenty of good rewarding work.
