We are thinking of taking our 5th wheel on claims but not quite sure how to get a 22' ladder safely there. Perhaps someone is doing it and we'd like to hear what hardware you have installed to carry a ladder because the 5th Wheel uses up the truck bed.  TIA.  George

I carry a 40 footer, a 22 footer and a 16 footer all strapped to the top of mine. Just put some sort of pad down for them to rest on and strap them down. I had to add a couple of large eye bolts to strap them to.

We also carry 3 ladders on our 41 foot 5th wheel.  We took it to the dealer and then to an iron shop got some ideas.  Basically we built mounts to hold all three  to the underbelly of the 5th wheel.  They are not seen exactly and they just slide out the back of the 5th wheel for the long one and then the other two we can just get each of those from the side.  Then when the 5th wheel is unhooked from the truck we have no problem using the ladders for a storm.

Whilst I do NOT run a 5th wheel set up, I saw a group of adjusters at a truck stop in New Mexico when we were caravanning from Los Angeles to NOLA for Katrina.

There were 4 different 5th wheels setups, all lookin' sharp with the same graphics. They all had what looked like ski rack mounts with rubber grips .Had 3 ladder set ups that I assume were 14 ft, 24 ft and 40 ft extension ladders. It looked awesome to say the least. I did NOT speak to them but I am thinking they were part of a steep roof team.

I don't know how much something like that would cost., but I would imagine any RV dealer could do it for a reasonable cost . It would probably be really easy to do yourself with a bit of matrerial and an imagination

I just carry two Gorilla folders (17' and 13') in the bed of my truck, right behind my fifth wheel hitch.

Carrying a long ladder is for the birds.....
