Well we got snowed & blowed out of the back country. Just about the time we were zeroing in on the Whereabouts of the elk herd.
We were all at the top of the mountain on opening day at 6:00 am. before daybreak. I was in position in this one draw where when the elk get pressured they will start coming thru this draw, moving up the mountain. I was only 100 yards from 4 wheeler.
Nothing was happening so I moved over west to a tree line about 1.2 miles from my original position. At approximately 8 :30 I heard 2 shots from the area which I had just moved from. When I returned to original position there was a hunter & his son who dropped a very magnificent 6 point  300 class Bull within 50 yards of where I originally was set up.@#%$
As the weekend progressed that nite the winds started blowing All the hunters on top of the mountain had pulled camp and were either moving into bottom to camp or just went home. It rained steady for 2 days with winds approaching 45 MPH. Sunday nite when we went to bed it was still raining and wind rocking the camper trailer. Monday morning we were covered in a foot of snow with the wind still ripping.it had accumulated another 6" of snow within an hour and a 1/2 while we broke camp to get out of there. Our camp of 8 hunters yielded 3 elk the night before and were out in that weather packing out the elk until 2:00 in the Am. We had the cook tent fire roaring and hot goulash and lots of other food waiting for them when they returned to camp. We ended up w/ a small 6 point bull and 2 cow elk. One of our new hunters was stationed by the 4 wheelers up on top where the guys packing meat came out. He had to build a lean-to and a huge fire to keep from freezing to death. I believe he froze his feet as they were numb when he returned to camp @ 2 :00 am. he said they were stinging pretty bad at 10:00 that next morning .
So I am ready to buy beef and forget about hunting this year. Actually I want to be deployed somewhere in the south where I can live the winter thru on a seafood diet.
it is very possible the storms in the east today came from what we were caught out in.
