Recently a vendor I know of promised the company that all the adjusters working the storm (on a day rate) would have GPS tracking devices so the company could tell where the adjusters were at any time. Although this did not happen this time, the idea is on the table.
Would you work for a vendor that wanted to track you? Do you want the company knowing where and when you are.
I would have declined the assignment over this. But would you?

Glad I'm 55 and not 25. I'm shaking my head and wondering when and how the anti-technology revolution will start.

This post is simply because, without it, my post count was at 666. How coincidential is that?

Many of us have read the disclaimers in many vendors contract. It,s my assunption these contracts were drafted and approved by one or more lawyers representing the vendors. This language is plain ; but not simple, or the real facts You are not an EMPLOYEE. You are an independant contractor.
Now we all know are should know a sub contractor without insurance is covered by the GC's insurance, workers comp. and general liability. This is in all 50 states to my knowledge.
Now if you are required to use exactimate which is trackable, and have a cell phone and a GPS ... this does not sound like the master/servant relationship the crooked vendors want some to believe. Most of these vendors do not have a pot or a window is why they are not sued ever day. If I was a the widow of a person killed on the job or disabled for life..... I think a very good plaintiff lawyer could win........ IF HE/SHE could collect. BUT you must name the real power with the gold

The only way that I could think about this without the creepy "big brother is watching you" vibe would be like in a staff adjuster position with a company vehicle.
I would pass on this opportunity as long as I had a viable option, if nothing else available, I guess I would have to become one of the mindless sheep following the herd into Europa

My cell phone keeps track of me and has for some time. This so that should I get out on that hotel roof and have the door lock behind me, my wife can find me. Should I fall off a roof or just have a stroke, my wife can find my sorry remains. Nobody else tracks my whereabouts.

Every adjuster using Xactimate is being tracked through Xactanalysis. The carrier will know when you are on the internet, how long and if you posted to their Xact for open claims. Carriers can track date received, date closed, keep it too long without solid reason could be fatal. Carriers already have your cell numbers and will be calling you once you have an assignment to make sure you contacted their insured then set an appointment. Carriers want fast results. Giving you a GPS is likely with the requirement it be on 24/7. If you are not handling their claims efficiently to their liking files will start being pulled. It is why you only get 10-15 claims to start. Production is the name of the game. If you have larger losses reporting and that might be daily is required. Miss a report your vendor is going to fine you by deducting fees from your part of the bill. If they do not follow that procedure their carrier might take more drastic steps. I have done all this and more working for carriers reviewing files. Big Brother will be watching. With all the technology in place working in the field is not the joy it once was when there were no cell phones, no internet, no fax machines, no GPS. Honestly, there were by far fewer problems and less complaints than now.

No matter how many times folks talk about how it USED to be or how it SHOULD be, unless someones talks about how it COULD be and does something to CHANGE it,
as in life, WE EITHER DEAL WITH IT AND ADAPT OR WE DIE AND GET REPLACED
or something like that :-)

The first post on this subject dealt with adjusters working day rate. The carrier appears to have possibly had a problem with personnel possibly not being in service when the day rate was being paid. The old adage about apples and barrels may be the culprit here. If I am working I have no problem with the "big brother" being able to tell where I am. If I am not doing what I should be doing, then I should be responsible for the explanation of why I was not doing what I was paid to do.

If you have a mind to always think why?, your little brain can really play some games with you on your future income. Things like if we all use one estimating program on all storm losses it will lower our income as each thing we do to close a file will have a dollar or a fraction of a dollar figure. Things like inspect a 4/12 walk on roof with 2 gables = XXX. clean a large table lampXX. In other words the amount of the loss is not how you get paid. Every thing you have to do is in the puter and if you don, t know what you are looking at , the computer will tell you and also tell someone how much you should be paid. I thing we have seen some of this already, get a 3 day license and learn the program and you are one. I thinks it progress if it will work. The biggest argument for it is all the questions have been removed from the thinking process, and you roof thumpers will have to get a part time job to may a living wage. Makes sence to me.

I would have to say they can sit and track me all day if they want to . It is a sad thought that they want to make sure they are getting their monies worth.
Any adjuster worth his salt doesn't have time to worry about someone tracking his every move.
I wouldn't want the job of tracking all the adjusters .it would be like trying to stomp out a fire ant hill with two left feet.
I wonder if the number crunchers have figured out the money they would lose by pursuing this operation???

Actually, anyone tracking me on a storm would only end up realizing I am working 100 + hour weeks -- unless of course they wonder what I'm doing in my motel room (writing up claims from early morning until after the clock tolls midnight some days).

It is the hi-lite of the day to sit down and have a real dinner when on cat deployment. I was just remembering how many times we called in for food to be delivered to our rooms so we didn't have to stop writing estimates . There has been more than one time I have had to take time out to clean the Tony Roma Sauce off my keyboard . Do you think we'll get docked for sauce on their keyboards? LOL

Freedom is a funny thing, hard to achieve and easy to give away (Cameras on every street corner and airport machines that do what the x-ray glasses never did). Is this just one more freedom we will throw away with both hands not waking up until Big Brother controls evey moment we have?

Hostile work environment? I think that only applies to employees, though, not to independents.

The million dollar question is are we going to depreciate the labor on the fire ants when they rebuild their ant hill ?

If I was a new person who got a license and several "certifications and have tried to get work for about one year and never been called out, it would be a good lession to watch your dudget very close. Most of the adjusters I have met over the years in cat. claims had a good fall back plan. A partner that was behind them and could kkep the homefire warm for 6 or more months. I have always known Hail is the bred and butter of the income stream. If you have been trying for about one year or so and never been out it may be time to get another license to get rich quick as you got the wrong one.
