    Hello all,
I have been an IA doing auto only, I have worked cat and I am working daily claims now. I have an opportunity to work property for a local IA firm which would help me better feed the family. I have strong work ethics and have created great connections on the auto side which would open some doors on the property side. I have ordered the trial of exactimate and the workbook that goes with it. Here is my question, is there a book out there that can help me learn some of the basics, I have a good rating with Pilot on the auto side and I can get into the property evaluation test but I don't want to show up and fail. they have told me I have to be able to write some basic estimates without a computer so I need to get to the basics. If I can get through that first day I can learn my way through the rest of the week, I am good on nextgen and have have basic building knowledge. Please all advice I can get will help.
    Thanks

You already have a foot in the door with Pilot, maybe you should look at training with them. I believe they have basic estimating classes, and I know they have Xm8 classes. Last class I took with them, they didn't even charge me, said it was payroll deduct. Get on the Pilot website, look at the class schedule, see what they offer.

The entry level test is just basic common sense, not much more
Here is a thought , ask someone at Pilot if they have a study guide ?

JEROSS69, most of the IA firms have training on thier website for adjusters on thier roster. Much of this information can be downloaded for individual study. For that information that can not be downloaded, I have used the cut and paste and put that information into a Word document for print out and study. Although having been never deployed, I have gotten onto a number of IA firm's rosters by submitting my construction, and customer service experience for thier consideration. Once you have been put onto thier roster and can participate in thier online training, most of the testing results is maintained in your personnel file, therby building a more favorable experience base for you.

I can tell by the grammar you used, your humility and the specifics that you gave, you're likely to succeed.  At this point, I would recommend sticking with Pilot if you can and get your feet wet in as much as possible.  A storm manager is going to pick-up on your work ethic immediately, trust me.  And it will happen fast.  Don't get tempted by offers of bigger and greater things at this point, there is plenty of time for that later.

Pilot has FREE  X27 classes running.  Plead your case to get in one and the NexGen class if applicable.

Pilot will always be the largest player in the catastrophe field. Your you communication skills, put it on paper and you will go a long way with them.
