Can someone please explain to me what "shadow hits" are when calling hail damage?   I am an IA with 2 years experience, a newby to many, but feel that I know what a hail hit is compared to normal aging/wear & tear, blistering, etc.  I inspected a house and found what I considered to be minimal damage (3 hits per SQ on right slopes, aging and normal granule loss on the front and back slopes, nothing on the left) and called for repair.  Insd complained and got a reinspection.  I checked on the claim to see the results of the reinspection and the second adjuster said there are "shadow hits" on the front and back slopes and bought the roof.  What did I do wrong?  I checked the matting on the backs of the shingles on all the slopes and was sure the only potential damage was on the right.  Any information to help me is appreciated.

    Yeah...  What "X" said.

They decided to buy the roof to keep the customer happy and came up with some mumbo-jumbo to justify it.
