    Hello all,

I have been using Simsol for quite a few years now adjusting flood claims. I recently took a class for a different estimating software and one of the things that was taught was defining and using subcoverages. I know that in Simsol you can define a subcoverage but I have yet to find out how to actually use this subcoverage. What I am trying to do is define a subcoverage of coverage B for the special limits on a flood claim and have those Simsol specify those limits in the esitmate. I can add the subcoverage and see it on the contents estimate coverage information but to actually use it I would have to have two contents estimates (which Simsol can't do), one for Coverage B and the other for the Special Limits. Is this possible?

For example, there is a $2500 limit on artwork, instead of creating a new area for the limits is there a way to have the artwork show up using the subcoverage that I set up under the coverage screen?

    Thanks,

    Scott

Scott,  I too have used Simsol since the late 90's and usually think it will run circles around most of the competition  but  they have quirks  and you hit one  Simsol seems to know you can have a sub-coverage within a primary coverage as long as it is within the 4 they allow  and you can add information  So I tried it on an old estimate first adding Artwork as a Contents subcoverage. Well it took it but it did not open another category to do a separate estimate  I opened Contents  but nothing   So I went back and added Artwork as a new coverage  with the same conclusion as above   I thought it might open a new line under Contents  did not work  not sure why they allow you to add a new coverage or subcoverage yet is does not display in the estimate   So I have just adapted to the "wiggle method"

I have done this in Flood and just "tricked the system"  by going into Contents and creating a sub coverage in the Contents estimate making Artwork a Group heading then making Artwork my sub-file I place a note in the Note Section of Contents to state Artwork is limited to $2,500.00    I did my estimate and valued out the "Artwork Loss".  I then put a footnote in the estimate line if the values exceeded the $2500.00  limit   then made a sub-note in the final flood report    More than one way to accomplish what you need

Thanks for the reply. I do love Simsol. I can and have used the others and they have their place. Since attending a class for one of the others where subcoverage was touched on I started looking at doing the same in Simsol. I guess I will have to keep doing it the way I have been. Recently, I have just created an area for the subcoverage noting the special limits in the area notes.

    Thanks Again,
    Scott

    All,

It is true that simsol contains a section in which the user can enter sub-coverage info.  The data fields are provided for informational purposes only at this time.  We had originally planned to expand our coverage and estimate capabilities in the 3 series of simsol updates but later tabled the idea and saved in for our next system rewrite (simsol 4.0).  In the upcoming simsol 4.0 series these capabilities are being added to the software.  Features such as multiple estimates under a single policy, estimate(s) dealing with a subcoverage and supplemental estimates are being added to simsol.  There are also some wonderful new development tools available to our adjusters which will make the simsol 4.0 series a winner from the first release.  Don't expect it this year however, we don't release new versions until they are ready nor do we attach bogus "Version" numbers such as 20, 21, 22...NN" unless the update truly calls for it (i.e. our version numbers don't increment (version 2, 3, etc) unles we do a complete rewrite of the software.

To all simsol users or users of the "other guys" software, what "new stuff" or improvement on existing stuff would make you switch over to a new platform for your estimating and adjusting (assuming you did have a choice in the software you use)?  We will take all ideas seriously if they are presented in the same vein.  Who knows, maybe you will see your suggestion in the new version of simsol in 2011!!!

For those of you who don't want to post publically, my email is john.postava@simsol.com.
