No hail on this roof, that I can see. This dark shingle and attic heat has made the shingle age much faster, I still think they are over 12 years old.

I agree, looks like excessive heat damage due to improper ventilation.

A little late to chime in. You stated that no collateral damage to windows, guttering etc, was found. But if pea size hail falling in amount to cause that much roof damage, certainly vehicles parked on the premises would have some sign of damage as well. I favor the opine of defective shingles. I have seen this before and do not relate it to hail.

By appearance, this is blistering, a deffect in the shingle possibly. Pictures alone cannot validate hail damage or disprove hail dmage. what does the vents look like, gutters, soft metal. Was damage noted in any of these areas? Drawing a conclusion from this single photo can get you some conclusions that may not be correct. The variables must be present to determine cause, I would lean towards defect but wouldn't sign my name to it until all aspects are inspected.

I can tell you right now that I would have to turn in this claim as granular expulsion due to old age or incorrect attic ventilation. This is no sign of impact depression, and no circular patterns of missing granules. If this is what is on the entire roof, it is not a covered cause of loss. Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.
