Have you checked to see if the TX DOI minds if you have a producer and an adjuster license simultaneously?... Getting an adjuster's license for the state you reside in is usually a good place to start.

I know the TX DOI doesn't care because I know some people who were adjusters and then became agents, but they still get deployed by their companies. I also know a couple of agents who quit the business to become adjusters, but still keep their license current.

I own a insurance agency in TX that pretty much runs itself, so I am looking for a new opportunity to get into the claims business.  But a few of the companies I have talked to will not hire anybody who is a agent or owns a agency.  Does anyone know of a company that doesn't mind that I own a agency?

Notice to Applicants:  The following matters will generally restrict an applicant from working for Pilot:  (This is not an exclusive list.)

- A felony conviction
- Any conviction involving breach of trust (lying,  cheating,stealing, etc.)
- Any conviction involving violence
- Any conviction for bad checks or other evidence of mishandling of money or finances
- Any outstanding warrant
- Lack of a valid driver's license
- Under the age of 21
- Work as property or auto insurance agent or ownership of a property or auto insurance agency within the last 12 months

I held both an agents license and an adjusters license for some time after closing my agency and becoming an adjuster. TX DOI had no problem with it back in '01. I was a staff adjuster for the next 3 years, so there was never any dual roles, but I did handle claims for some of my old clients. No cat vendor has ever asked me about my role as an agent.
