I don't see any dates for 2009 workshops. Anyone know why not?

I would really like to see the NFIP do a Web based annual certification - like you can do CE on-line for other adjuster licensing.

Here is a link to the schedule: http://www.nfipbureau.fema.gov/trai...ps2009.pdf I'm planning to go to the one in Ontario, CA, on January 27th. Hope to see Bob Harvey, Steve Beaumont, and Leland there again. Anyone else going to that one, let me know so I can meet other CADO folks.

Steve,
I'm afraid I won't be at the Ontario one this year as I can't get away that week. I am going to shoot for the one in Mobile in April. Are you still thinking about going to the PLRB convention in Seattle in March? We are still planning on it, so let's try to hook up there if you go.

Great to see you folks at the Southern California NFIP workshop last year, but my wife talked me into going to the Northern CA one in Concord this year for a change of scenery.
I had to call the NFIP to get the street address, this years schedule isn't like last year, no address or phone for the convention location. I asked them to update the web site or they will be getting lots of calls. (edit: they posted a revised version with address for workshops 1-21-09)
The guy I spoke to had been with NFIP many years, was familiar with the changes in past year of on-line access for adjusters, so I asked when we could start doing this annual thing ON-LINE like you can do CE on-line for other licenses. They have no plans for that. He said there was going to be something for brand new adjusters to prep them for the workshop, but no plans for any "virtual" annual workshops.

Sorry about the delay in the posts in this forum, I just noticed that this forum was set to a moderated forum in error which means post needed to be approved before they are viewable, however no one knew to check the queue. It is no longer a moderated forum and we do not have any on the site.

The first 2 workshops put on by FEMA this year have been rescheduled, both are in California.
At this moment FEMA hasn't posted this info on their website, but I heard it from "Laurie" when I just called them to see why I haven't received my confirmation letter yet (I mailed my fee to them weeks ago, as soon as the schedule was published).
She said "I'm glad you called, we had to reschedule those first 2 workshops because our mailings weren't done in time and we didn't give people enough notice of the scheduled dates - resulting in very few sign-ups".
For years FEMA has contracted with a 3rd party vendor to do the workshops, and this is the first year for this new vendor (H2O Partners). Hopefully things get smoothed out. She said the non-California dates will remain as per the schedule posted on their website, but the CA dates are changed as follows:
Feb 17 for Ontario, CA (was Jan 27 Southern CA)
Feb 19 for Concord, CA (was Jan 29, Northern CA)
If anyone wants to talk to a human in the FEMA training dept their # is (888) 318-5112
http://www.nfipbureau.fema.gov/training/ l is the training page for NFIP that should have link to Workshop info.

Thanks for the update Bob, I'm adding the dates to the CADO Calendar which is also displayed on the NFIP Support Page. I'm also trying out the event enrollment for the Workshops. So if other CADO visitors plan on attending one the Workshops let others know by enrolling. It should be noted that enrollment on CADO for the Workshop does not I repeat does not replace the WorkShop registration, it's just a way to let other CADO visitors know you plan to be there. Using the calendar you can also receive a reminder 3 days before the workshop and export the event to your desktop.

We have not received the normal mailing we get to enroll in the workshop. Did anyone else get theirs?

Tom, the person I spoke to at NFIP training yesterday (quoted above) admitted there was a problem, they didn't get the mailings out promptly. When she told me they were rescheduling the first 2 workshops, I told her "the cure is worse than the disease" because anyone that cares about this stuff would be pro-actively seeking the info and looking at the previously posted schedule on their website.
In an environment where they have a "tenuous" line of communication with their audience of flood adjusters, changing the schedule will no doubt result in some people making the trek out of town to discover an empty auditorium. Our tax dollars at work.

The SoCal workshop is rescheduled to February 17 is my understanding (although the NFIP website still had the January 27 date listed as late as the afternoon of January 26th. Our tax dollars at work. But then it is a California seminar, so "Dude, I flaked," would be considered a legitimate excuse.

It's a good idea to arrive about 8 am. They generally start about 8:30. I attended the rescheduled Ontario, CA, event. There were about one fourth of the number of people as last year. I understand why. It took considerable effort to determine when it was being offered. They just don't seem to have their act together this year. I had to find out when the event was rescheduled from the parking lot attendant.

As most people know Computer Science is out and 5 different companies have contracts to provide the services. Certification classes are handled by H20 partners, Inc. Where the training was once conducted by General Adjusters working for Computer Science and actually handling claims in the field, now it is handled by hired teachers. Where the General Adjusters would field questions and discuss issues from the field, the current teachers teach the Adjusters manual and nothing else. H20 Partners does not handle claims. H20 Partners, Inc. is supposed to communicate by email. However, they don't seem to have email communication down pat. One thing we noticed was that the initial notice had the town on it, but whoever put the notice together did not seem to know the venue and its address. We were told that the NFIP needs us, but if we handle RCBAP claims and make a mistake the NFIP will want their money back from the adjuster.

I attended 3/17, the instructors were former instructors (GA's) who are now working as hired teachers to help out H2O. My question. on the Adjuster Certification Application, line 10, asks for present E & O carrier. Since I have relied on the vendor for this, and don't have my own policy, is this a certification killer, and therefore should I wait and get my own policy and then submit my application, or just answer none, and it will be OK, all other things considered?
