On Ike their adjusters as a whole were (by their own words) admittedly very weak. They were new to the cat situation and have grown quite a bit. I know their next CAT will be much better and much smoother. Their training was excellent although overpriced. The staff is strong and encouraging. With each deployment their people get more experience and they will keep getting stronger. Payment was not as promised. I, however, am grateful to them for getting me started wtih the right foot forward despite the price. I chalk it up to growing pains for U.S. Staffing. Their management will write me asking me to not say anything derogatory but people on this site are here for some truth. I think anyone who gets in with U.S. Staffing now will have a smoother road to hoe than their predecessors! Hope this helps!

Try to sign on with US Staffing as a "Student Adjuster" - there is no such creature. They have no such program.

Thanks to all of you who posted on this subject.  I am exploring this field and certaining know nothing about your profession.  I am a real estate appraiser with 30 yrs experience and 15 yr. insurance background. That said, I am not an adjuster.  It appears to a novice, that no one has complained about Vale schools and the top draw is Vale.  I am interested in Cat claims as i have a 30 yr business but would like to travel and free up my time to work on contract and see the country when not deployed on claims.  This may be a pipe dream, and please tell me if i need to wake up.

I do not expect any guarantee of work only a good education.  I have the $$$ and time to attend any school but  do not want to waste my time. Any suggestions wil be appreciated.

Byoung,

It is not a pipe dream. After working Katrina, my wife and I took ten weeks off and took a big ol' road trip. Then we worked a couple storms and took ten more weeks off and spent them in Oaxaca, Mexico, with no cell phone access. We kept in touch with many of our friends and colleagues by sending weekly travelogues with photos of the places we went and the people we met.

However, it is feast or famine. You need to realize that. You need to also know that it takes considerable and constant effort to establish and market yourself.  2007 was as bad for us as 2005-2006 was good.
