    Just wanted to get a concensus on how the CADO population would handle this situation.

    I like many other adjusters, am waiting for the next deployment. While waiting, I took what was supose to be a temporary job. One day I got a call from a company asking me to handle some local day claims. Said there would be plenty to keep me busy, and "I would not regret it", so I quit my job and waited on the claims.  Well to get to the point, this company gave me a grand total of 3 claims, all handled timely and without complaint. Once invoiced I was advised that the mileage I was promised would not be allowed, not a big issue to me if they kept me supplied with claims, which as stated before, they have not. I recently recd payment for my services, and I noticed I was paid for 1 claim twice. Now  the question, should I have kept the money given the less than honest statements used to "sign me up", or should I have called and let them know of the mistake. The amount is not great, will not make a difference to me or them in the long run.

     

    So, what would you do?

    I would tell them about their mistake. Better than them coming back later and causing more problems than this is worth.

    I do hear where you are coming from though.

    I can understand your frustration, however your honesty and personal integrity should dictate your course of action. The amount of money is irrelevant,  I personally would give the money back.

    Send the money back, with a thank you note for the work and that you look forward to working with them again in the future..

    I would send the money back. After deducting that promised mileage of course. How was their fee schedule for the work you completed?

    Your integrity and honesty should not be predicated based on the morality of others........if it is wrong to keep money not owed you, than it is wrong irregardless of the attitude or ethics of any one else.........in the final analysis, only YOU will be judged on Your actions in this life........

    You may want to expose the company that has done this to you......I wonder, does their name begin with an "E"

    I have considered it, and no it does not start with an "E". I personally will probably never work for this company again. I have found others that are sending me some claims, so I can survive without them. But they may actually be busy somewhere else. I would hate to turn another adjuster away from them because of my rotten experience. They did pay me, not timely, but I was paid.

    Jim,
    I am glad that you found other work.......However, the fact of the matter is that they only paid you partially for your work and in fact they were late with that payment. They had agreed to pay mileage and then did not......This is not the sign of a reputable or ethical firm. You are doing a dis-service to your chosen profession and those that share it with you by not divulging the name of this unethical company.

    From what I gather from this one word is that PRIOR to this post that you had already done the right thing.  It is nice to know that people do the right thing when no one is watching.

    Upon arrival at my first storm, wide eyed,deer in the headlight, how will I ever remember all the things the carrier requires? A 12 year Veteran said to me " you learned everything you need to no to do this job, by the 2nd grade. Is it right or is it wrong? " This is not everything you need to know, however it is a very large part.
    Be honest for yourself always, not for others or because of others!!

    Jim Gary I have been paid twice on the same claim many times and I always contacted the company as to their mistake and sent it back. I always thought it was a test of my honesty and if it was a mistake that would be caught in audit, I would lose any future assignments. Did the companies name start with a U that you are referring to.

    Ric, I had been a staff adjuster for six years and had worked for an Independent and I had worked as an independent for another two an a half years when I went to work for a large vendor to work Hurricane Ivan claims in Alabama. I knew how to write an estimate in Xactimate and I thought I was fast until I saw the speed of many of the adjusters in the catastrophe office. I learned many things to increase my speed from these adjusters. When I was working Hurricane Katrina assignments I learned more thinks that would increase my speed and I learned more while working Hurricane Wilma assignments in Florida. I took a temporary adjusters job with Fireman's Fund Insurance Company for five months and I learn another thing that would increase my speed.

    No it does not start with a "U". Now we have eliminated U & E, only 24 more to go. Hopefully we will have a deployment before this game of hangman is done.
