Ok Folks, I was pokin' around the archives and saw some interesting threads created a spell ago and noticed one that posed some nostalgic value.  The humorous part is that the thread only dates back to the year 2000, "Are Digital Photos Dead?".

The thread was started by long time poster/member, Simsol's John Postava.  The question was brought up in a period where digital photography was becoming increasingly cost effective and conversely efficient.  This thread has a nostalgic air only on the premise that it has to be the last time anyone thought that digital photography would meet its doom- not due to the age of the thread.  So, I don't want to hear anybody whining about how old they are.

Jud, that brought back some good ol memories. I definitely remember the digital debate very well. Thanks for reviving that forum. Now, it appears, the 35mm is dead on the vine and the digital rules. We still use a video camera on some large losses, but it is now a digital video so we can convert them to DVD.

The same story was told that copies of a document would never be legal in the courtroom.

Mike Stephenson showed his Photo Adjuster at a CADO convention several years ago that let you verify if a digital photo was the orginal version or a copy. There is still more 35mm film used in adjusting today than I would have thought but I am sure that will stop in the near future.

I should have prepped this thread instead of assuming that this would continue on from the previous thread with the same title.  This thread is in continuance from the CADO Hall of Fame thread.  It was done in an effort to spotlight generous contributions made on CADO by those involved with the field of Catastrophe Adjusting.

Following is an excerpt of my opening post:

"The Forums of CADO are marked with a colorful history that display many distinguishing hues of stimulating dialogue, life lessons, expert advice, humorous blunders, and of course, the passionate diatribes.  Because of this history, CADO has become the online Mecca for the Insurance Industry’s niche of Independent Catastrophe Adjusting

For me, CADO helped me in numerous ways:  I found my first two (2) Catastrophe IA firms, I learned about laser tape measures, my approach to applying policy coverage was improved, I learned about industry trends, I learned the value of using correct grammar even in a casual setting, I met some terrific people, and earned a greater appreciation for opportunities to continue my education.  These are just a few.

Without CADO, I know for a fact that I would not have made it as far as I have today.  In addition to the troves of information available, this site has been supplied with a terrific pulse.  This pulse is driven by an eclectic mix of adjusters who have contributed much to make this site beneficial as well as interesting."

I received some comments via private messages on this effort and for that reason, I hope to see it continue.

With that said, I must say that the thread met a slightly awkward ending.  The last contribution I mentioned was a coverage thread orchestrated by Jim Flynt called Grandma's Grave.  This post & thread was created in 2000 and another one was done by Jim on a much later date with a similar title and similar coverage issues.

The coverage thread created on a later date contained many more posters and was met with heated discussion.  The last poster on the Hall of Fame thread, trader, got the two confused.  I advised him of the confusion, but he never edited or explained his post.

I bring this up for two reasons.  First, I want to see that this thread continues in a positive light.  It contains valuable information and I feel that it reminds the those of us in our small community to continue to spread good will.  I feel that the only way to do this is to dispel the awkward ending of trader's old post.

Secondly, I will not spotlight any dialogue overshadowed with unprofessional behavior.  I did mention "passionate diatribes" in my opening post, because that is an aspect of this site's history that can't be ignored.  If you want to satisfy your guilty pleasures, then you can search for it yourself.  You won't find me dragging out other people's dirty laundry.

Jud, I too have been helped greatly by CADO. I think CADO is a little like the gentleman running the gas station in Tom’s Christmas story. CADO is there in the night offering assistance and food to those in need with no fanfare and even if things get messy from time to time. It seems like the only things that count in the long run is what one does for another that they can’t do for themselves at the time for one reason or another. We will never fully know the positive impact CADO has had, is and will have on the lives of others. Personally I would not like to think of how things could have turned out had it not been for the industry resource of CADO that does remind me of the impact of the filling station being there for those in need when we are down but not out. I am sure I am not the only one that was running scared because he was in over his head in a strange industry who through CADO found the information and encouragement to keep going and not accept failure as an option even when it was so tempting because the pain was so great.

Roy Cupps, thanks for all of your many commitments to CADO and what it has meant to me, my family and my staff. Regardless of what you do in the future you will always be number one in my mind in the CADO Hall of Fame.

If this is the post I am thinking about I disagreed with Jim Flynt on first party coverage on a tomb, but later apoligized to CADO and Jim when I was wrong.

This is a good example of a package policy (Homeowners)  picking up owned property that is not covered by specific coverage. The liability policy always had this coverage .

I am at work, as I type this, because of a CADO ad. If everyone who got a job because of CADO posted a note like this one the list would be as long as the one at Joe's Stone Crabs.

We have been working daily claims in Florida since early summer.  We got hooked up with the vendor on ClaimSmentor.com.  We met Deb from ClaimSmentor.com on CADO. We also got several standby calls for Florida for Ernesto from vendors we heard about through CADO. We wouldn't have had any idea how to start or proceed when we were introduced to cat adjusting in 2004 if it were not for CADO.

Thank you Roy and Merry Christmas to all!

    Great posts everyone, and thanks.

The next nomination I have is a thread from the Adjuster's Den (in the CADO version just before this one) regarding the topic of Loyalty.  It's an old topic that is often debated, rationalized, compromized, and questioned throughout many RV parks and hotel parking lots.  The degree of one's loyalty is crucial to your next assignment, relationships with other adjusters, and of course, your overall reputation.  Because of the last two big years (2004 & 2005), I beleive it's always important for us adjusters to be reminded of our perspective on this topic that has gotten us where we are today.

I plan to start up another thread to open up this topic for discussion on the sole issue of Loyalty just so that others may add to the one posted below:

    Gale and Kim,

It's people like Tom, Roy, and Debbie that use quotes such as "No good deed goes unpunished" as a fuel source to pay it forward anyway.

They've been around long enough to have enough reasons to justify clamming up- there's even a few in the archives.  Their 'pay it forward' attitude is certainly one that none of us should ignore.

Virtue is easy, its the getting there that's tough.

Jud, "no bad deed goes punished" makes just as much sense to me. I guess I just have been out of the loop too long to catch the point in your last post.

You're right, my statement was subject to being misread; their unflinching commitment to help others is not deterred by the cynical naysayers.

There are those like me who have been helped, know they have been helped and recognize the debt.

Janice and I both have received claims from daily vendors as a result of CADO. We have much to thank Roy Cupps about. Janice just picked up a new account and on her first two files, got a compliment on her estimate, photos, and report, from the CEO of the company. I wish more vendors would do that and including problems with the file. Sure makes you feel good when you get compliments on your work product.

Good point Jud. It is a good thing the industry has those who are interested in helping regardless of what noise is being made by the naysayer types. There are people that seem to get their strength and guidance from an internal source while others seem to have no strength or guidance other than that provided by the crowd they are hanging with at the time. Many people seem to just “shut down” the first time someone questions what they are doing.

As people keep stating the positive results CADO has had on their careers we can all be thankful that Roy Cupps does not listen to the naysayer types. Roy’s passionate vision for CADO has remained strong in the face of naysayer types and that in turned has attracted like kinds of people as you gave a couple examples of in an earlier post.

Meg has mentioned   http://www.thesecret.tv in CADO Chat a few times recently so I watched the movie on line ($4.95) before forking over the $25 of the DVD. I will have to say I did not care much for the movie trailer in that it really has nothing to do with the movie itself but the movie was fine. Actually it is mainly authors and scientists talking about the Law of Attraction and there is not anything secret about it since in is the basic teaching of most religions. The DVD came yesterday and last night the kids and I watched it together they seemed to grasp the concepts fine but again their exposure to the naysayer types have been limited.

The DVD is good for staff training as well but I think I will go for the book version personally since I am a reader and in that it has more content. I guess “The Secret” is an OK for a name in that it can help one to understand the “secret” as to why CADO has gone on to be successful site when others have not.

Some seem to think there is some negative reason the rich get richer and the poor get poorer but as the movie points out it is the simply the law of attraction. It is a hard pill to swallow that the negative stuff in my life is there because I attracted it but so is the positive stuff. The exciting part is by focusing on what one wants to attract instead of focusing on what one does not want to attract makes things go better.

We see this on CADO all of the time. One positive post leads to other positive post often as well as one negative post can to yet another negative post. As some wisely point out from time to time when we respond to “correct” a negative poster we often just get more negative posts when if we would not give our attention to the negative post then it would just fade away.

Why did they not teach us in grade school that as we think so are we?

Wow, just when I predicted that no one had risen from the SEC to the status of Great. Matt Houchens makes a great call on predicting them to win the National Champs- so early in the season. Check out this old thread: Florida Gators.

The Gators played Ohio State and left the Buckeyes with a sizeable blackeye. That level of consistency in THE game demonstrated the strength of Florida’s program as well as the SEC.

Further support of the strength of the SEC was proven by my LSU Tigers when they scoffed in the face of luck by demoralizing the Irish. Both LSU and Florida just destroyed the game of two top Heisman quality quarterbacks: Brady Quinn and Troy Smith. Oh boy, ain’t the SEC just super!

As far as Arkansas is concerned, they had their day in the sun and gave Mr. Toll his best day in a while. They played well in the SEC championship against the soon to be National Champions.

I just hope that Boise State doesn’t complicate matters with LSU in the polls. I believe, in this case, it would be apropos to discriminate against them due to their weak schedule. IMHO, Oklahoma was just one game and certainly doesn’t justify a top two ranking. Granted, between the hook and ladder and the Statue of Liberty, it will be a game that many will talk about for a long time.

    Jud G.

My condolences to anybody who is an LSU fan living in Alabama this week after UA's hiring of Nick Saban.

But it could be worse. You could be me - a lifelong Dolphin fan and LSU alumnus living among the obnoxious members of Gator Nation.

Oh, well,.......mark your calender for October 6 (UF visits Tiger Stadium) and November 3 (LSU at Alabama),.....and cross your fingers that JaMarcus Russell announces he will stay and be a part of it all at tomorrow's scheduled press conference.

Thanks my friend.  I'm already prepared for the departure of Mr. Russell.  He'd be silly not to go pro while losing his key Senior target Dwayne Bowe.  Plus, if he doesn't do well at QB he can always switch to nose guard!

The news just gets worse while Bowden brings on Jimbo Fisher (LSU's offensive coordinator) which, to me, is the secret and key ingredient to LSU's success during the reign of Saban and Miles.

Hopefully the Dolphins will get a sufficient replacement- Steve Carroll?
