Texas will also be in trouble as most of the coast properties are in the wind pool TWIA. They have paid most of their claims one time, but have thousands of suits filed against them and may run dry. I said may, but all the lawsuits may break their back. It seems the settlements are around $100.000 each and the expense is almost as much and it could be 9-10 thousand suits or more. Nothing worse than running out of money to pay insureds and adjusters. Thats why you need a check ever two weeks.

Fortunately Ray you and I have been around long enough from Hugo to Andrew to Katrina to understand the economics.  TWIA from Ike and Citizens have no one to blame but themselves for their plight. They accepted the crap from their approved vendors who convinced them that their "adjusters" would deliver; they did not come close for if they had, although there would still be lawsuits, they would be nothing like now. If 2012 hits the SE  it will take "real adjusters" to survive. In Peacetime every person claiming to be an adjuster thinks he can handle anything. Turn Peace into holocaust like Andrew or Katrina and reality sets in. In Katrina I saw hundreds of so called adjusters just walk away from nightmares realizing too late they were in over their head and were not going to make the easy, quick buck they thought. Ok they made some short term money  but those with real ability ended up cleaning up their mess  My fear is a 2012 would bring the storm we all need to make some money but have it snatched away by Carriers whose bottom line evaporated and they find themselves unable to pay all their losses. Then we have a great storm and we either have no one to work for or the ones remaining drag out paying vendors. Several vendors I worked with in Katrina are seeing Carriers re-negotiating contracts now with stipulations allowing them not to pay us for 120+ days. I do not know about you but If I work today in 30 days Visa, MC or AMEX will be due. I will have to pay them when due. That will get tough if I have to wait 120+ days to see my money, then that carrier go belly up and I am lost. Many feel they will be better served on the other side as a PA or Appraiser or Umpire and get away from a carrier that may fail.

Willis a vendor who contracts not to pay the adjuster for 4 months has to be in congress. I do not know who will work for 4 months without a check. Two weeks is my limit and should be ever person who calls themselves one. I have been screwed several times, but never more than 2 weeks.
