HELP!!!  There was a thread here about a particular instructor in North Carolina whom someone felt was very good.  If anyone knows who that instructor is or the thread that pertains to getting Licensed in North Carolina please let me know.  I have my TX lic. and need to get licensed in the state of North Carolina (resident state).  Trying to find out how bad is the test and how long is the course work for this class.  Thanks in advance for any help given.

FRom what I hear, with a TX or FL license, you can just apply to DOI North C. , pay an annual fee, and get the license, not testing. Might want to check DOI website.

Why would you not first check the State insurance website for the particular state in which you desire to become licensed?  Wouldn't that be the first place a person desiring to become licensed should look?????  Even if someone handed you the information, you would still be required to go though the state's licensing division in order to actually become licensed.  If you apply yourself just a little, you can find the state's website, either here on this website or just "Google" it, how much easier can it be?

I'm licensed in TX and NC and never felt compelled to ask anyone on this website how to go about becoming licensed in either state.  Do your research, its part of what you're going to have to be doing in the real world to perform the actual job of adjusting, why not start now!

    Easy, there, Meg.

You actually expect them to be capable of independent thought?

Why would they do it themselves if they can get someone else to do it?

You sure expect a lot out of your fellow adjusters.

With an attitude like that, you're liable to go somewhere.

When I posted this comment on the site I believed this was a place that people would help and not criticize.  Obviously I was wrong.  As for looking on the various sites I did.  I also followed up with phone calls to check the information because I do realize my interpretations of what im reading and what is the actual fact can sometimes mean two different things.  And when I followed up with the phone calls the answers were contrasting.  So I thought I would seek the help of people that I thought would not mind giving a helping hand.  You know the old saying if your not a solution to the problem then you are the problem.  As for me Meg and all others with the smart comments I have applied myself in everything I have done in life to include earn two Bachelors and a Masters.    I've seen any number of you ask questions in the chat room and people did not mind helping you instead of saying "if you just give a little more application".
Maybe you all should take the approach that Ray Hall takes and what was intended for this website and thats just give advice not give smart answers that help no one but your own egos to sound intelligent. If you dont want to give the advice keep the smart comments to yourself.

    Thanks for nothing

    Christine,

Perhaps Meg did not answer your question because you have not asked one. Did Meg give a "smart answer" to a non existant question? All of the sentences of your initial post end with a (.), none with a (?). But, your punctuation appears adequate. Could you elaborate on that which was intended for this website? Perhaps the folks (presumably at the N.C. DOI?) who gave you the contrasting answers should be asked more questions (or statements or something).
No one is absolutely worthless, at the very least you can serve as a bad example.

    Meg,
I think you are very good at answering questions: you answered Larry H's before he even asked them.

You fell in the bear trap   Run to Texas, spend your money, get a non resident license, which is invalid without a resident license somewhere, or supposed to be.  Or you got a Texas resident license , Which means you fibbed about your resident state

In North Carolina your resident IA  license  is  called the Self employed Adjuster License  and you get it by taking an exam. There is no classroom requirements. When you see the outline and take the test you will see why they don't require a class. If you can pass you know the information, You apply then register with the promissor and go take the test. It's 100 questions and  covers everything from statutes, auto, workers com, inland marine, commercial , to property policies.

If you can pass the test you will have a good grasp on policy. You can take an agents course on these or you can find the books and self study, although your eyeballs will bleed.

This site will get you started

Here is the outline of what you should learn

The adjuster section starts on Page 13

PS  this is a real exam, not like the one you took for Texas , so make sure your prepared. Also they are correct , you could have found all this on the front page of the NC DOI site. Its a real simple site name " NCDOI.com"

    Larry,
I asked for help.....not to be raked over the coals about someones opinion of me. Although I did not put in adequate punctuation (?) the question was did anyone know where the thread was pertaining to being licensed in North Carolina? That was all I really wanted. I do thank David for giving me the information. This information I did look at but none the less It was appreciated. In my opinion this site was intended to help adjusters communicate with one another and to seek advice from others that have already seen and done. I felt that the people here were more of the experts than those who hold the desk jobs at the "departments of insurances" where ever you may be. I've seen really great advice given.....just didn't think that by asking a question or making a statement would cause this kind of problem. It makes you not want to ask another question (statement). So I'll make this one my last. There was a thread here about a particular instructor in North Carolina whom someone felt was very good. If anyone knows who that instructor is or the thread that pertains to getting Licensed in North Carolina please let me know?

    Christine,
Check the archives if you're searching for a particular thread or topic.  You can use keywords to do your search.

I'm sorry that you think I gave you 'smart' answers, I feel I gave you some very wise advice.  In adjusting, as in life, you're going to be tested and stretched beyond what you believe are your limits, but with the right attitude, a desire to listen and learn, you can potentially be successful.  But in adjusting, as in life, if you become resentful or belligerent in your attitude due to answers that don't satisfy the answers you seek, this can be a dangerous pitfall toward your road to success.  I'm not pointing a finger at you in particular, just general statements that many years under my belt during the journey of life has taught me.  The desire to learn and not be handed every morsel of wisdom is part of the learning process, as stated above, in adjusting as in life.

You are correct that this is a web site for adjusters.  This is not a web site that advertises that they train adjusters.  This web site offers numerous educational opportunities, but one has to apply themselves, listen to what's being said, and sometimes listen to what's not being said in order to fully take advantage of those opportunities.  Your criticism toward me and others regarding how we should behave is unfounded, as no one is obligated to even pay attention to you, much less hand you the answers to any question you ask.  What you receive here should be considered a gift and not an entitlement.  That's also a life lesson, an attitude of entitlement will not get you very far, and probably get you less.

Good luck to you, I do wish you well whether you realize it or not.
