Alexis,

The Texas licensing course is offered online, so there is no need to go to Texas to take it.  If I were you right now, I too would keep the day job or try to get hired on by a major insurance carrier like State Farm or Zurich who want people with no experience so they can train them their way.  You might even consider, since you are in Ohio, hiring on with Progressive.  They will send you to auto adjusting school at their expense in Cleveland.  That would introduce you to adjusting and you can use that to move into a property claims position after you get the basics of adjusting.

Hey, Alexis...I'm not sure how our friend Steve discovered that you are from the state of Ohio, but I've learned never to question Karnack The Magnificent!   If you've seen any of my previous posts regarding staff positions & training, don't discount the opportunities you might have as a beginner as staff with The Cincinnati Insurance Co (Cincinnati Financial Corp).  It was many moons ago that I got my start with them, but they are a company founded by independent agents and provided a great multi-line training ground for property/liability/auto & work comp.  Surely some things have probably changed since my time there, but knowing their philosophy and the families that were in control, it might be worth a look see.  Expect to make a living, but moreso, expect to enjoy a job & learn how to make a better living over the long run.  They train a person thoroughly, and made it fun along the way with continuing support once you hit the field running.  It might require you relocate to another area as a resident adjuster & work solitare on you own little island as I did, but it was always like they were just next door to help you out in some way.
