We all know the forecasts don't always pan out, plus it depends WHERE it hits, but let's assume for a minute that a major hurricane hits south Florida or something.  Should that happen, what is the best way to go about getting into CAT adjusting for the storm?  I've been in insurance restoration for 2 years, and in fact was in Houston for Ike, so I'm familiar with hurricanes, and I use Xactimate.  I know to save money afterwards and all of that, and that's not a problem.  Once I'm done adjusting I will return to the construction side.

I've read a lot of posts on this forum, and before I go further, let me just say this: IF ALL YOU WANT TO DO IS BE SARCASTIC AND IMMATURE AND TELL ME I SHOULD GIVE UP AND GET A JOB STOCKING GROCERIES, SAVE YOUR TIME AND ENERGY!

I'm looking for real advice here.  One of the guys I worked with 2 years ago left the construction side to adjust Ike.  He had 3 months worth of claims, made $90k, and was then back to the construction side.  So you can't tell me it can't be done, because I know someone who did it!  Unfortunately I don't have his number anymore to ask him how he went about it!

Okay, so what's the process to get on with an adjusting firm?  I have my Texas license, and I don't have any desire to take any of the other overpriced courses.  I originally got the license in order to have more credibility with homeowners when I'm trying to sell them on why they should hire me instead of Joe Roofer who knows nothing about insurance.  I know the licensing course is somewhat of a joke, but I have done additional policy study on my own, because it helps me in my current business.  So I feel I am a few steps above some others.

Sounds to me like your just asking us to give you the key to the chest full of gold. You will sneak in and take it with our advice on how to do it. Once you have stolen enough you will walk away until the chest is refilled with gold.
Not everone here is out just to make a quick buck and go on to other things.

If you are going to join us out on the next storm then the best advice anyone can give you is the same advice we give all of the others. Read through the vast archives of CADO. CADO archives have all of the questions asked and answered one way or another.

I've also read a lot of posts on this forum, and before you go any further, let me say this: YOU HAVE NOT READ THROUGH ENOUGH OF THE PREVIOUS POSTS IF YOU ARE ASKING THE QUESTION THAT YOU HAVE POSTED SO IF YOU HAVE ANY OTHER QUESTIONS LIKE THIS ONE PLEASE FIND THE APPLEBEES GUY AND ASK HIM THE QUESTION FIRST. IF HE DOES NOT HAVE THE ANSWER AND CADO ARCHIVES DOES NOT HAVE THE ANSWER THEN WE HAVE NEVER HEARD THE QUESTION BEFORE. THEN PLEASE BY ALL MEANS ASK AWAY.

I would never be sarcastic and immature...

1.)  You've got a license and you know xm8.  Now you need to send out some resumes and get on some rosters.  Look on this site for companies to contact.

2.) Find that guy's number!  I want to know who paid him $90K for three months work!

I would estimate my own house in xactimate, just like a large tree cut through the roof of the kitchen and was resting on the floor after crushing every thing in the kitchen. Take lots of good photos, write a good cover letter and send it to all the large vendors. Assume the coverage is just like your Homeowners and show what the coverage is with a full report. Also fill out a complete proof of loss. Show these vendors you can do the work. They get thousands of people who want to do the work, but never send any proof. Send some of your old remodel jobs, notes etc.

If you have the license and a big storm hits, you can get a job. If you want to do the job, you'll have to read all the archives and do all the things that are suggested by others in this thread and in the archives. You might pay attention to the difference between gross income and net income. The guy that made 90K was probably a Texan. We have a penchant for BS.

    Good luck!

Somebody posted on this forum that ICA paid him $600,000.00, that is the job I want. Worley is paying $450 per day for handling BP claims. That is $10,800 per month.

I would start putting my name on as many rosters as possible. Some IA firms give free Citizens training to thier adjusters. Make sure you get Citizens certification as ther are hundred s of thousands of people insured by them. After Wilma I was training a friend of mines neighbor how to be an adjuster. the kid made $16k his first month. When a Major one hits everyone will be working.
