    I'm an experienced (15+years) local, independent property adjuster. I'm interested in making the switch to catastrophe adjuster, and would prefer to work for a large insurance company, rather than being independent. I think so, anyway.

    I have no idea how to get started, or who to apply with, and I'm just looking for some general suggestions. Thanks to anybody that can help!

    Here's some friendly advice. The grass is not greener on this side of the fence. Please stay where you are if you are making any kind of living. For all you may have heard about the Great Glories of the Road, it is only at best 10% true, and then only on alternate Tuesdays.

    Wait till a big one hits, then drag up...its very slow now. Pilot, Ebrels, C & C, Cunningham GAB, etc. is a good place to work.

    OH re read your post, Liberty Mutual, Allstate, State Farm, USAA, Travelers, Firemans Fund many looking for experience adjusters.

    Ok, so what are the chances of a mere mortal getting a job with one of the big carriers. I worked IKE and stayed for cleanup and had to get a real job afterward. Lets just say it sucks. Im ready to get back on a roof!

    The chances of you getting a staff position with a large carrier, without a 4 year college degree, are very small.

    I have a bachelors degree in Risk Management, Owned and operated an independant Ins agency for 12 years (2 million in volume), and Owned and operated a construction firm for 10 years. I got out of the sales as I hate an office.

    If your credit is good and you don't have any DWI's you are in like Flynn. Try Travelers, Safeco, USAA, and Liberty Mutual for starts.

    Charlie, don't expect to find the cat team job right away. You will probably have to hire on as a local adjuster first and work into the cat job. Its been my experience that the cat jobs are filled from the existing adjuster ranks. Unless they do not have enough applicants from inside, which is generally not the case.
