    Hey everyone!

Probably sometime along about Wed 10/25 or Thursday 10/26, we will have an adjuster get-together here in Houston out along the Gulf Freeway (I-45) down south towards Clear Lake. (One of those nights 'cause the wife will be off down in Cancun on a friend's  birthday trip with NO husbands!)

If you are in the area and would be interested in joining us, drop me a note to khromas@aol.com so we can get a rough number.

Will follow up with details as Paige and I get them figured out.
She lives off down there (Pearland) and I moved to the west side of Houston 10 years ago.

Here are the details for the Houston Adjuster Get-together:

    Wed., 10/25     6:30pm    Joe’s Crab Shack @ 12400 Gulf Freeway    713-910-3232

Will meet in the “garage” area which has a smoking area adjacent to it.

(That is the Fuqua exit going south and the Shaver exit going north.

Sits on the west side of the freeway.)

Cost is $5.00 a head for All-you-can-drink buckets of beer and some large appetizer trays.  THIS APPLIES ONLY IF YOU HAVE TOLD ME BEFOREHAND THAT YOU WILL BE THERE!

$10.00 if you just show up without prior notice.

(I am picking up the balance of the cost and writing it off as advertising.)

    NEWBIES ARE WELCOME!!

Come and see if I really am the 3-headed OGRE you have been led to believe!

There will be name-tags with our ‘real’ names as well as our on-line handles.

(May be able to get a couple of vendors I know here in town to show up. We’ll see.)

Chance to meet and greet some other players in the industry.

Put names and faces together and make some contacts that might come in handy some day.

Drop me a note if ou intend to be there:    khromas@aol.com

    Kevin,

I wasn't going to mention it, but now that you've brought it up.....

I have to admit, it was a bit distracting when two of the heads kept talking at the same time, wasn't sure which one to listen to, but what was real unnerving was the fact that the third head kept rising up over the other two and staring at me!!!!

Gotta love that little ole lady at the inspection tho, she kept referring to how important she felt to actually have "three" adjusters come look at her loss!

    Do the right thing, ALWAYS

Given the many negative posts you have written about "newbies",  I can't imagine any would actually show up.

Awwww .... did I hurt little e-coli's feewuns with my prior posts about newbies?

Hey, if they don't want to come for the basically free booze and eats - ON MY TAB...

AND ... the opportunity to meet some people who very likely could be their storm manager IF they ever get called out ...

OR the opportunity to meet some vendors .... OR the chance to get their face and name out there ....

THEN DON'T COME CRYING ABOUT HOW THEY AREN'T CALLED OUT WHEN THERE IS A STORM!

Wait, you want it handed to you on a platter, right?

(Hey, Roy, I thought you didn't allow anonymous posting anymore?   )

The efforts of Kevin and Medulus ought to be commended. This concept ought to be taken nationwide and held monthly. This could be a foundation to bring us together as an organized group or  proffessional organization.

Any "newbie" worth his weight will seize this as an opportunity if they are serious and self motivated. This is an event that facilitates networking and forming relationships which could prove advantageous in the future. Most people are willing to help people that will make an effort to help themself first.

You have two types of newbies

1 I just got my license- what next

2 I just got my license- will someone let me ride along with them(this one is motivated and knows what next)

Kevin and Medulus thanks for the positive contributions you are making by putting together these events.

I will be there and will bring along about 10 new people. I met Kevin at an event he sponsered in 2001 and I remember his sponsorship of such an event in Virginia Beach in 2003 and Kissimmee in 2004.

The law of average is on your side, someone may like you and help you get a job someday.

Sorry, no hurt feelings here, although it sounds like I struck a nerve with you.

I agree this is a good opportunity to interact with fellow adjusters, meet vendors and get your name and face "out there", I just have doubts about you wanting "newbies" in attendance, given your many negative posts about them.  You know what they say about first impressions, and mine is you do not like newbies.  Hopefully, my impressions are wrong.

As far as profile, when I registered, I listed everything that was required.  If I have missed something, let me know what it is and I will complete it.

Kevin, they are not anonymous.   The profile was completed as required.

For those new to CADO, there have been many get togethers in pass hosted by other members,  let's not forget their efforts.

Here is a link to some photos from some prior events. click here

Regarding the profile, the only thing that shows up when your handle is clicked on is just that, your handle.

Thought the registration had to have full first and last names and that posts had to be signed?

Seem to remember that as one of the 'new' requirements.

As for 'striking a nerve', the only thing that does that is a 'newbie' presumption that they should have things handed to them without the work and effort that it takes to succeed in this business. OR if they come in with the attitude that they know everything already and can't wait to show it.

Example #1:   Last year in MS I gave a ride-along to someone new who asked for it with the full intention of continued assistance. I spent 3 hours listening to HER ideas about handling claims and insureds. I actually made up an excuse and cut the ride short because I was just tired of listening and being interrupted by her. The classic example of a 'newbie' that I want out of the business.

Example #2: A few weeks ago while in Virginia, a 'newbie' screwed up her courage and sent me an e-mail asking for a ride-along since I was in the area. She came along with an open mind and EARS and it worked out fine. I will do all I can to help her succed in this business. (We joked that no one would believe her when she told them who she rode with!)

Take your pick as to which type you want to be. Might go a long ways to success.

Kevin, your profile only list your handle or alias also.  The users cannot control what is shown in the profile for this forum. If you will notice first and last name is not even listed as a field.  However, if a users wishes they can change their alias by click on "My Settings".  This is not required.

Registration does require first and last names. You cannot register unless you provide this information.  But I never required that a post be signed with the full name.  I stated that the full name would be displayed and provided and if you visit the Catastrophe Central forums you will see what I mean.  This is the community forum and screen names are allowed.   Each forum area uses a separate profile which is in addition to the site profile.

    Roy,

My bad!  Thanks for clarifying that about the info.

I have always signed every post I made here and elsewhere. Always felt that if you take a stand on an issue, you better have the cajones (or whatever you hold near and dear!) to stand behind it!

    Brent,

Got you down for the get-together.

    Kevin,

You said: Wed., 10/25     6:30pm    Joe’s Crab Shack @ 12400 Gulf Freeway    713-910-3232 Will meet in the “garage” area which has a smoking area adjacent to it.(That is the Fuqua exit going south and the Shaver exit going north. Sits on the west side of the freeway.)

I was there a week ago and I do not remember a parking garage? Were you referring to the Joe's Crabshack parking garage at the boardwalk in Kema?

    Brent (et al)

The 'garage' area was how the manager I spoke with described an area they have near the bar and along the patio. I think they have garage doors they open up around a couple of sides so that's why they call it the 'garage'.

Thought about having it down at Kemah but that is such a pain to get to that time of day.

With the wife out of town, I considered doing it here at the house but you know how neighbors would talk! Course Ray (Trader) can attest - I put on a heck of a crawfish boil early in the season! Have people start asking in Jan. each year if we are going to have one so they can plan their vacations around it! Had to skip the last 2 years because I was off working.

It was wonderful to meet fellow Houston Adjusters and several others from other cities.  Kevin was a gracious host, great food, and great company made for a delightful evening.  It was a pleasure to meet all of you, we should have one again soon.  And by the way Kevin only has one head.  ( and is not a three headed monster).  It was nice to meet trader and several other regular posters I have seen on Cado.  Thanks Again Kevin you effort was appreciated.
