I don't generally get involved in political conversations, but right now is not the time to refrain from this subject. I am seeing less loyalty from the vendors and certainly no loyalty from the government to protect who we are and where we are going. We have blood clots in our employment arena also.
In my opinion, this political mess can only be cleaned up by fresh blood. We have too many blood clots running our country. The same o, same o, just keep running and we just continue to allow it. I, for one, have no faith in our democratic process, as it stands right now. We no longer are a "for the people, by the people" nation. The war in Iraq was a dramatic mistake, but we are there, so we must remain and accomplish the task at hand, if someone could just define what the task is. We owe our men and women of our nation that serve to protect us. They are a fantastic group of men and women and deserve our utmost respect and gratitude for what they are doing and what they are going through. I personally stongly support our troops and our men and women who serve as police officials to protect us here in the states.
It is sad that no politician can have a qualified and discernable "light bulb moment". They just keep arguing with each other over the same crap, and it is just crap with no substance. Our school systems don't teach, our colleges don't teach, and our politicians don't teach, our parents don't teach. Our taxes are not being used as they should be, which makes me wonder why we have to pay them. I, like many of you, pay a lot of taxes, yet, don't end up with much spendable money. We are now over a trillion dollars in debt. We, as a nation cannot afford proper health care, proper nutrition for ourselves and our children, jobs for our own people, let me repeat that, OUR OWN PEOPLE, we don't enforce existing laws on immigration, they just use immigration to get votes. We have become a spineless and condescending nation. We believe all the crap our leaders throw at us and it is beginning to stick. We have become lazy and lacking intellectually. There is still hope though, if we could only get the right leaders to run for the right reasons and with our countries integrity in mind.
We are allowing gas manufacturers to rape us, along with the countries we rely on for oil and have supported and bailed them out of trouble many times. They know they have us over the barrell, (pun intended) and are treating us like second class citizens. When we opened our doors to international trading, we closed our doors to manufacturing here in this United States of America. We wonder where all the fuel is going to. One large vessel with a shipment from overseas burns an average of 3,000 tons of fuel every 24 hours of operation, (that is not a guess, that is a statistical fact). They ship to a port that is very far away from central and northern states, thus requiring thousands upon thousands of tractor trailers to take those goods to all the states not near the ports of entry. Now, where is all the fuel being used, it becomes obvious. What can we do about it, nothing, as long as we leave politicians in office that are border line morons. Obviously some politicians don't respect the absolute honor they have received from the voting public to be placed in that honorable position and choose to swindle, cheat, steal, and corrupt their moral obligations to us, their employers and that includes their morality. We need to have another Boston Tea Party and shovel the dirt where it needs to be shoveld, before it is too late, and that time is nearing.
Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.

Each and every one of us has an opinion. This may or may not be the place to express them, but Tom has opened a door that needed to be opened and while normally, I like Tom, do not normally engage in conversations regarding politics or religion, and it is with some trepidation that the following comments are made:
Just as every journey in life, starts with the first step, every revolutionary movement has started with the first dissension, argument, opinion or "Tea Party"as Tom has alluded to.
He is 100 % correct in his statements. We are no longer a nation, "of the people, by the people and for the people". We are but clones who thrive on the total BS that is spewed at us from those that we have elected to represent us (OUR MISTAKE)
If we could really absorb all of the misinformation, and disinformation that is proffered by the powers that be, this nation would see what is happening. The existing politico have informed us of what their proposed agenda is, and that is to turn the United States of America into a weak and purposeless entity.
We are in a no win situation in Iraq, not at all dissimilar to "Nam". We are there and those who fight for our existence here at home deserve all the possible support we can give them. BUT, we don't do it. We don't give then vehicles that can repel a roadside bomb, like the Limos that the elite ride in, do we? We don't handle this in the way we did the prior engagements of the countries conflicts, do we? Why, because we don't have the leadership required to make the right call. We have a cadre of Monday morning quarterbacks. Not one of them will step up to the plate and swing for the fences.
Where are the leaders? Why is there not one that can say, "Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead.
Simple, they all want to be remembered as a good guy. Well, IMHO, there are only those that wonder whats happening, watch what is happening and the very very few that MAKE THINGS HAPPEN.
We are the greatest nation in the existing world. right now the only true Nuclear power. However , we are siting on our hands, under our posteriors, waiting for North Korea, and now Iran to use the purchased, stolen and purloined information and materials to prepare an attack on nations that cannot defend them selfs.
Tom, is correct, WAKE UP & SMELL THE COFFEE!!!!!!!!!!
Unless, and until we all understand the true purpose and intent of the people in power, we are but clones, like sheeple being led to the slaughter. Power corrupts, absolute power corrupts absolutely.
There are those that will agree and those that disagree with these opinions, and only time will tell.
Perhaps the old adage of being judged by 12 , rather than being carried by 6 will open some peoples eyes, ears and voting fingers.

Well I do think you both covered some very good ground on the subject. I also think this country has just gotten soft but i'm not going to get on my soap box right now have some claims that i need to work on after all that is what pays the bills and i hope there is more work around the corner for all of us.

The United States of Apathy..... Has a nice ring to it don't you think?
I for one do not think that anything will change in the near future due to the fact that most Americans cannot be bothered to vote.
In the local elections, where every single item on the ballot will directly effect the community, only 7 people in my precinct voted!! Yes, 7.
I do not know the numbers in national elections but, I am certain that percentage wise it cannot be very high. Until people become aware and less apathetic about what goes on in there own communities nothing will change.
Unfortunately...

100% percent or more of the people vote in a couple of Philadelphia precincts, but then that includes more than a few dead people and quite a few who travel from precinct to precinct voting over and over again. If you don't believe me, check out the record from the 2000 presidential election.
We have very patriotic dead people here in Pennsylvania.

Historically more dead voters have cast ballots then apathetic voters. If they vote then they are most likely deceased.

As I am not usually one to say much here but this is a discussion that needs to be addressed. Before we blame any of our so called elected officials we need to look at our selves. We the American people have forgotten that this is supposed to be a country that our politicians work for us and not the special interests. When was the last time you heard a politician actually say something that was true. We have forgotten how to stand up and be heard by our elected officials. We have gotten soft and allowed these people a free hand in running our country as we the people do not vote as a whole nation. Yes we are in troubled time and the only way to fix it is if we as a people get out and vote to get rid of the good old boy system and elect people who are not professional politicians and who do not have an agenda.
We hear all this BS about terririsiom and such but we are feeding into that hate. Why are we imposing our will on countries that do not want it? We send billions of dollars to other countries yet our own people cannot afford even the basic medical care. Our schools do not teach, our social services do not help, our government is broken, and only we can change it. Yet all I hear is people complaining and not one person questioning why does it take millions of dollars to run for president and millions of dollars to run for the senate and congress. I'll tell you as it's the way for those politicians to not only get rich but to serve themselves and the people that back their campaigns. As much as I despise all that Iran's president stands for he has made some good points. Who is getting rich off this war HALLIBURTON, WHO WAS IN CHARGE OF HALLIBURTON? DICK CHEENEY, WHO WORKS CLOSLEY WITH BIN LADENS FAMILY THE BUSHES. WOULDN'T SURPRISE ME IF OSAMA IS LIVING IN CRAWFORD TEXAS.. With THAT SAID WHO IS MINDING THE STORE? NOT OUR POLITICIANS AND CERTINELLY NOT US. WE THE PEOPLE HAVE THE POWER TO CHANGE ALL THIS BUT WE ARE TO DAMM LAZY TO DO IT. How MANY OF YOU REMEMBER THE 60'S AND 70'S WHEN MARCHES AND PETITIONS HELPED TO CHANGE THIS COUNTRY FOR THE BETTER. Sorry about the soap box but if you want to change then do it and stop complaining as we are to blame for this terrible time as we have done nothing to make our leaders think we want change.
They treat us like children and tell us what they want us to hear and no one questions them not even the so called press yet when an idiot like Paris Hilton pulls some crap it is all over the news. Why is our government hiding the truth from us because we do not force them to tell it to us as we accept what they say as gospel? Can you say "WEPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION" that did not exist? But what did exist was OIL and Money for Halliburton who had the contracts signed for the rebuilding of Iraq before war was declared. I am a vet. And to me this is worse then Nam. As we cannot win. How do you change a society that believes what they do and does not want our way of life? Yet if you watch the news the only country that has nothing to say with words is the country that stands up for it's people and does not back down and that is Israel. They do not bluff nor do they allow people in power to put the country in debt. They protect their own and provide all they can for their citizens.
I love the USA but feel that what our founding fathers did in the beginning is no longer the same agenda our elected officials carry out today. What’s next do we declare war on Iran, north Korea or any other country that we fell is not living up to our standards? before we do that we should elect people who will fix what is wrong here in America and let someone else worry about abroad.. I'm sure a lot of you will disagree with me but this is what America is about the freedom to disagree, not the power to change countries for political and financial gain for a few. Nixon was impeached for a break-in so why is Bush allowed to kill our kids for a pointless war in Iraq. Our solders are dying for nothing as this is a country that will not change nor do they want to. And on that note where is all the money our government is spending going. Ask Congressman Waxman he has the same questions and no one in the Bush administration can account for any of it. It's our tax money and we don't have a say in how it is spent. It's time to change and only we the people can do that.

Tony, don't be afraid to tell it like it is. You spent some time on your post, and I personally appreciate it. I agree with much of what you said. It is time for us to stand up and holler about the way this country is being led, not only Bush, but congress and the senate.
Get on your barrel anytime you want to. Term limits would be an asset to this country, but the only ones who can do it are the ones screwing our country up.

I have to agree with Tony it seems no one is in charge of anything. It is next to impossible to ask a straight question and get a straight answer be it at work, at a retail store or even at church. No one is in charge so no one is responsible.
We ate at a local restaurant for the first time (they have been open for a year or two) last week two nights in a row due to other activities nearby. The first night was awesome the next night the same grill chicken garden salad had half the amount of grill chicken. Our order was the same as the night before and with the waitress. When the check came on the second night it was $12 more because we were charged for three items that we did not order nor was served and they had to pull someone out of the back at could credit back the wrong amount and charge the correct amount.
While this was not big deal we read of the same level of service every day in all areas. It could be a poor job handling a claim or someone dying from simple surgery due to no one taking charge to see things were done correctly the first time and no one in charge to see it was fixed right when the mistake was learned.
None of the three branches of government are going to “fix” things no matter what we hear from the campaign trail. I was reading on an RV forum how it can take 2 years to get the factory defects worked out on a $200K motor home and even major engine manufactures like Cummins have known defects that can cause an engine to leave parts and oil in the roadway when they fail. It is across the board and is not because the buyers did not pay the asking price for goods and services.
The plan in DC to turn us into a third world country is working very well. :(

Tom & Gail, Thank you I just wish all of us would get out and really speak up to our goverment. the way things are giong i am afraid for the future generation as there will be nothing left to govern. Between the war and the misspent money our goverment mispends there will be nothing left but debt. Get the word out as only we the people can change the shape of our future. It's a sad america when we cannot even care for our wonded soldiers in the proper way. yet congress and the senate all have the best health care in the country. i can do this soap box for hours but with out the people willing to help change our goverment you might as well be spitting in the wind. This is a big reason I got out of public speaking a long time ago. I used to be a delagate in New Your in my youth and over the years I have found that the american people no longer care to help make change all they want is it to be handed to them with no questions asked. That how we ended up in Iraq. We can no longer believe our elected officials as they have their own agenda and we are not included in it no matter what BS. they feed us their actions show otherwise. Back in the day our goverment motto was the business of america is america so when did it change to the business of america is to make our elected officials richer?

I have thought about, many times, starting a web site called Citizens Advocacy. Probably wouldn't be able to do much, but worth a try. If more people would get involved in politic, maybe we could push some of the politicians out that cared only for themselves. Oh well, a good thought.
I e-mail my congressman and senator constantly. I have never gotten back a personal reply, just one of those automatic, thank you for contacting us, your concerns are our concerns. Yeah, sure they are.

Interesting reading....
Thompson vs. Clinton in 2008
Bob Beckel, the Democratic commentator, stated that Thompson is the man that the Democrats fear most.
By Bruce Walker
Two months ago, I wrote an article, The Next Reagan, in which I outlined many of the reasons why Fred Thompson will be the next Ronald Reagan. Events since then have confirmed my arguments. I predict that Fred Thompson will enter the Republican nomination, that he will win it fairly easily, and that he will also defeat Hillary comfortably in the presidential election. Why?
First, no Republican since Ronald Reagan draws remotely as much genuine enthusiasm among conservatives as a serious presidential candidate. Both of the Bush presidencies have been mild disappointments. Though respect for our current commander-in-chief is high, President Bush is simply not an effective communicator or articulator of conservative principles. President Bush, however, is light years ahead of Senator Dole, the 1996 nominee, and also better as a communicator and campaigner than his father. That is how bad things have been for conservatives since the Gipper left the White House. Fred Thompson, in stark contrast, is a phenomenal communicator. His background as a film and television star combines perfectly with his background as a very persuasive trial lawyer so that he is not only comfortable in front of the camera or at the microphone, but his skills in rhetoric are unequaled in any major political figure since Senator Robert Taft over fifty years ago.
Second, Thompson has always walked the walk on ethical issues. When he was Republican counsel in the Watergate hearings - the same hearings in which Hillary cut her teeth in politics as a Democrat - Fred Thompson did not tolerate the corruption of the Nixon Administration. He can effectively point out that both Hillary and he were on the same side in opposing corruption when it was his political party that had problems. Thompson also, though, was unrelenting in his opposition to the corruption of the Clinton Administration and stood out as the lone Republican senator with real guts during the impeachment trial ofClinton. The combination of these two principled stands will allow Thompson to relentlessly condemn Hillary as an accomplice in her husband's thoroughly corrupt eight years in office, to ask her point-blank about how she became the best investor in America (with no experience), and otherwise to do more than simply suggest that Hillary is a liar, a hypocrite and a bully.
Third, Thompson would unite the whole leadership of the Republican Party. No one dislikes him and almost everyone likes him. Although some conservatives may worry about his friendship and past support for John McCain, the critical fact is that friendship is reciprocated: McCain would be a very active and passionate supporter of Fred Thompson in the presidential election. In the interview Levin asked about his friendship with McCain and McCain's position on illegal immigration. He acknowledged his good friend but said that McCain was dead wrong on his stand on illegal immigration.
Fourth, the rap on Thompson is that he was "lazy" when he was in the Senate. This is precisely the same sort of rap that Leftists made about Ronald Reagan. In fact, this is a strength. Because Thompson acts from principle, he does not need to engage in the Machiavellian machinations which pass for "work" in Washington. The reality is that it is absurd to consider Thompson, who has worked during his life in more real jobs than almost any politician in Washington and who to day stars in two television programs as well as being the substitute for Paul Harvey and a frequent commentator in conservative periodicals as "lazy" at all. Like Reagan, he probably works harder than anyone in Washington.
Fifth, because he was an extremely popular Tennessee senator, Thompson would completely sweep the South, including problematic states like Arkansas, Florida and Virginia. Thompson, like Reagan, is one of the few modern candidates who has true regional drawing power. Thompson, though, would run very strongly in swing states outside the South like Ohio, Iowa, Wisconsin, Oregon and New Hampshire. His appeal to truly independent and undecided voters is real.
Sixth, Thompson cannot be demonized. His whole life has been a study in how the American Dream works. His blue collar background, his constancy of moral purpose, his lack of ambition for power for its own sake, his palpable decency - all of these will make anyone who tries to slime him look awful and any attempt will backfire in sympathetic support for him.
Seventh, because Thompson cannot be hurt in the usual ways that Leftists hurt conservative Republicans, Hillary will have to campaign him on the issues. This will create an insurmountable problem for her because, like all Leftists, Hillary has no stands on any issues. She just wants power. Thompson just wants what is best for America.
Success is not final, failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts.

I agree Thompson could make an “interesting” candidate but I am not sure how much weight he can carry getting in a year behind the others. I got to talk with him for a minute when he was the keynote speaker at an insurance conference, NAMIC 2006 I think and he was funny and kept hundreds of insurance professionals laughing for an hour. The article seems to sum him up correctly.

Again I have to take a stand. We all talk about the politicians but they do not talk to us as much as they talk at us. Not one of the candidates have actually done any real talking about the problems at home. All they want to do is convince us that they are the one to lead us to the Promised Land. UNTILL WE STAND UP AS A PEOPLE AND TELL ALL THE POLITITIONS THAT WE ARE NO LONGER GOING TO TAKE THEIR BS WE WILL NEVER CHANGE. Back in the day we the people really had a say in what went on in our government. Now all we do is blame everyone else. We have political leaders that are caught with their hands in the cookie jar all the time and yet they are allowed to continue. What happen to us as a people? Where is our backbone? Most candidates wouldn't know an average person if they fell over them. What do they know about our everyday problems? Have they ever been denied medical care, do they live paycheck to paycheck, do they worry about foreclosure? The answer is no. All they worry about is being elected so that they can line their own pockets.
Until the American people take back control of our elected officials it will continue to get worse. We the people have the power to change it yet only a 1/3 of the people vote or help to change the politics of our country. As A DEMORACTIC DELAGATE BACK IN THE DAY IT WAS THE PEOPLE WHO GOT THE CANADATES ELECTED AND MADE SURE THEY DID THEIR JOBS ORTHEY DID NOT GET REELECTED. Now ALL WE DO IS COMPLAIN AND DO NOTHING TO CHANGE IT. The TIME HAS COME TO STOP THE VICIOUS TREND THAT IS OUR GOVERMENT. The REST OF THE WORLD LOOKS AT US AS IDIOTS BECAUSE WE WILL NOT CORRECT THE MISTAKES WE HAVE MADE. I for one at times am ashamed to be an American. How can we hold our head up high when our own people suffer in large amounts? When did we allow the government to tell us how to raise our children? We have given the government the power over our lives without thinking of the long term ramifications. So until we decide it is time for a real change and we the people find the right person to run our country we will be at the mercy of the idiots in office now. Years ago anyone could run for local government now you need millions of dollars to run for office. WHY? Because it is big business and at the end of their campaign they get to keep what is left. How great is that? Some where along the way we as a country have lost our moral compass and let the government run our lives. So until we as a whole are willing to get out there and make our government change this is how it will be. Understand that every law that is proposed we the people are supposed to be allowed to decide if it is what we want and that has been taken away from us by our elected officials who think of us a children who could not possibly know what we want. Until we change that mind set in our government nothing else will get better.

Tony,
How sad that you feel that way. While I do agree with some of what you said, I have to say that you're living in a country that allows you to publicly state how you feel, make statements against the government and criticize our Great Nation without fear of reprisal from said government.
Yes we have problems, but we still have more freedom than any other nation in the world.
It makes me sad that you're ashamed to be an American. Be ashamed of the way we've allowed our value system to decay, be ashamed of what we've allowed our country to become, but please, don't be ashamed to "Be an American". I for one am proud to be an American, and grateful that, while we have an imperfect system, we still have the freedom to roll up our sleeves and change it.

The main difference between politicians of yesterday and today? The politicians of today have a greater chance of being caught. That said, it doesn't seem to stop them from trying. I always remember my grandmother telling me that before each election, she would get a pair of new shoes from one party and a new dress from the other, then go vote the way she wanted (secret ballot).
