This is a reminder to those who have yet to make their guesses.  There are only six days left to make your prediction in the "Thar She Blows" contest.  For those of you who are newer to this site, this is an annual contest that (I think) was started by Dave Hood years ago.  You, the professional catastrophic claim adjuster, get to stick your finger in your mouth, hold it up to the air and make your most informed guess about where the first hurricane of the year will make landfall in the United States.  I, of course using my extensive experience and knowledge of chaos theory and measuring the wing speed of many butterflies in Japan, have determined that Hurricane Chantal will hit the coast of North Carolina on June 13.  My rep is on the line here.  If you have not yet made a prediction, simply log in, click on the "Channels" option  at the top of the webpage and choose "The Cane Page" option.  There you can make your predition.  This will prove once and for all who is the master of disaster.  Make your prediction by May 31 or it won't count.  According to the buzz, this is a way to win some nifty CADO stuff.  I hope its a Disto or something, but I have no idea what "nifty CADO stuff" consists of.  (Yes, I ended the sentence in a preposition.  The National Association of English Majors is meeting right now to decide whether to pull my membership.)

    Steve,

I was a winner in the contest a few years ago and received a very nice CADO T-shirt.  It's great to wear to the first meeting when deployed.

Well, Steve, at least you didn't leave a dangling participle!!  Now that just might get you kicked out of the club!! LOL!!

    Janice,

If you won before, does that make you a Mistress of Disaster?  I won't tell Tom.

I won a pair of CADO tee shirts at the first CADO convention in Gulfport back in 2001.  They are great shirts.  I, too, like to wear mine when I show up at an assignment.  I also use it when meeting other CADO folks for the first time at a restaurant so we can find each other.

Hate those dangling participles!!!!!  They have no respect.

Steve, my prediction is no landfall hurricanes in the lower 48 states but that was not an option in the drop down list so I guess I am wrong since None is not an option. :)

    Gale,

Lower 48, huh?  Does that mean you are holding out for Hurricane (now Tropical Storm) Alvin to hit Hawaii, or some freak Pacific hurricane to veer off course and hit Alaska?

Steve, I know it is hard to believe but Alaska is the wild card for 2007 in my predictions because  I just can’t get a clear picture on Alaska. Barry liked to have messed up my perfect 2007 track record of predictions and I am aware the season is not quite over just yet. Look at it this way if there are no CAT’s that make landfall in 2007 there may be a glut of CADO T-shirts making the prize less costly to the promoters.  :)

If another year goes by without a major hurricane or earthquake, catadjuster levels may drop back to 2003 levels. I agree that under that scenario CADO shirts (as well as those CADO hats like Roy Cupps wears to keep the sun off his head) may be in overstock. Most of the three day courses only teach someone to handle wind and hail.  That leaves a mojor earthquake, flood, winter storm, or other type of cat event for more experienced adjusters and those with a lot of contracting experience.  But I'm still banking on Chantal, a good name for a wild woman if I ever heard one.

    Ray,

You are way off base. It will form in late Sept. over the Great Lakes and wipe out Cleveland.

No one is absolutely worthless, at the very least you can serve as a bad example.

Please, Larry, don't wish another extended stay in Cleveland on us.  The last time I was there (in January/February 2005) I thought I would never be warm again.  In reality, the water in Lake Erie by late August and September is well into the eighties and feels like bathwater, but I've never known it to spawn a tropical storm.

Anybody who wants to check the results of the entries into this years contest can do so by visiting the Cane Page (look in the drop down menu under "channels" at the top of this page) on this site.  Entries were, of course, closed on June 1 with the beginning of Atlantic Hurricane season.   Bear in mind that some people made their choices before the end of April and before Andrea and Barry formed.
