Well the forecast is for a little cooler temps and some nice moisture coming in from Seattle. That is the formula for tracking the elusive Wapiti(elk).
We have a ranch we go hunting on here in the later part of the season and this is the time of the year when the elk show up in the bottom on the ranch. I will keep you abreast of how it turns out if we are lucky enough to get meat in the freezer.

    Well Chuck,

we haven't had the nasty weather we were anticipating to make the hunting like it usually is this time of year. Ordinarily we will have enough snow to bring the elk into the lower elevations  . Also it is still early for the bucks to start rutting in earnest. They are usually in high gear on Thanksgiving .That will be the last week of our regular hunting season. So far it has been warmer this year and also a lot more moisture than normal.

We have had problems with smaller does for the last 4 years but I believe that has been changed by our taking of the smaller deer thru planned hunting

ethics. This year I have noticed the does are twice the size they use to be and they all have at least twins and I saw a couple with triplets. They have maintained their health and they all look very fat .Because of the extra moisutre they have had plenty of feed. This is all very exciting to see the deer population increase and to come back in a superior size.

In the past we shot only spikes for 2 years the next year there were hardly no spikes but many fork horns and 4 point bucks. we then shot just the forkies and then the next year we shot the 3 & 4 points. Now we have brought about some really larger bucks w/ much larger racks. it will be interesting to see what the harvest brings this year.
