We know many causes of claims are blamed on environmental reasons and global warning yet as I read more I continue to be taken back by the 180 degree difference in environmental and global warming articles. This thread is just a place to post such articles in one place not to prove any one view but just gather the different views floating out of the science community today.

Cow 'emissions' more damaging to planet than CO2 from cars

By Geoffrey Lean, Environment Editor Published: 10 December 2006

Meet the world's top destroyer of the environment. It is not the car, or the plane,or even George Bush: it is the cow.

A United Nations report has identified the world's rapidly growing herds of cattle as the greatest threat to the climate, forests and wildlife. And they are blamed for a host of other environmental crimes, from acid rain to the introduction of alien species, from producing deserts to creating dead zones in the oceans, from poisoning rivers and drinking water to destroying coral reefs…

Looks like we need to eat more beef.  So, indirectly, it is the vegans who are responsible for global warming.  Have I got this right?

UN Report Pours 'Cold Water' on Global Warming, Senator Says

    December 12, 2006

"We are all skeptics now," Sen. James Inhofe (R-Okla.), chairman of the U.S. Senate Environment & Public Works Committee, said in response to media leaks on a report by the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), which is set to be published next February.

London's Telegraph http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/mai...mate10.xml" target=_blank>reported Sunday that the IPCC draft report reduces its overall estimate of the human impact on global warming by one-fourth, and halves its predictions for rises in sea-level by 2100…..

You have to give them credit for being creative in their ability to turn basically, a flat line into a mountain range. How many of you would be willing to die for that ice fishing shanty?

Cheap Oil to Last, "Doomsday" Fears Overblown, Author Says

People usually assume that the planet is thoroughly explored [for oil], but this is not true. The United States and Canada are the most thoroughly explored, and the latest discovery by Chevron in the Gulf of Mexico demonstrates that they are not really so [thoroughly] explored.

Other parts of the world are really not explored at all. Even today more than 70 percent of the world's oil exploration wells are concentrated in the U.S. and Canada—countries that hold only 3 percent of the world's oil reserves. Conversely, only 3 percent of the world's exploration wells are drilled in the Middle East.

Many countries, Saudi Arabia in particular, have discovered oil fields in the past but have never developed them because of their fear of creating excess capacity…….

I was just reading the other day how eugenics lead to the holocaust because Hilter bought it hook, line and sinker. Henry Ford was stated to be a big proponent of it in the US. The article below names several eugenics supporters in the US. While this article sounds far fetched so do others in this tread that I have posted that relate to global warming be they pro or con. I guess the point is one can not always listen to the politically correct and be correct because what is politically correct keeps changing to meet the changing needs of the politically correct.

Global-warming theory and the eugenics precedent

    February 19, 2007

Global Warming" had a precursor in capturing the hearts and minds of the world. Michael Crichton, in his novel "State of Fear," brilliantly juxtaposes the world's current political embrace of "global warming" with the popular embrace of the "science" of eugenics a century ago….

The "science" was not lacking important public supporters. Theodore Roosevelt, Winston Churchill and Woodrow Wilson were enthusiastic believers. The theory won approval of Supreme Court justices, leaders in higher education and Nobel Prize winners….

They believed that "the best" human beings were not having as many children as inferior ones -- the foreigners, immigrants, Jews, Blacks, degenerates, the unfit and the "feeble minded."….

Ultimately the "mental defectives" in Germany were brought to newly built houses where they were interviewed. They were then shown to a back room where they were gassed. Eventually the German program was expanded into a vast network that killed 10 million undesirables….

The links below seem to indicate that a book by the name of State of Fear does exist so I guess the above article has some validity. I turn 56 in a few days and last week was the first time I ever heard of eugenics and the role it played in the holocaust. I guess theories can be dangerous if they are false and acted upon to control others. Man sure likes to control others doesn’t he?

Global warming may spur wind shear, sap hurricanes
    Tue Apr 17, 2007 6:02pm ET

Global warming could increase a climate phenomenon known as wind shear that inhibits Atlantic hurricanes, a potentially positive result of climate change, according to new research released on Tuesday.

The study, to be published on Wednesday in Geophysical Research Letters, found that climate model simulations show a "robust increase" in wind shear in the tropical Atlantic during the 21st century from global warming.

Wind shear, a difference in wind speed or direction at different altitudes, tends to tear apart tropical cyclones, preventing nascent ones from growing and already-formed hurricanes from becoming the monster storms that cause the most damage….

An interesting study, but it is just a study, will need time to prove one way or the other. The projections I have seen are interesting, an area of increased shear from the cetral car. to mid atlantic. And area of decreased shear south of the shear. A large area of decreased shear along the east coast and the northern coast of the gulf. The gulf itself netural. Time will tell.

Scientist: Warming not caused by humans
    Thursday, April 19, 2007

Spencer, a principal research scientist at the University of Alabama in Huntsville and former NASA scientist, said he knows he's in the minority with his opinions, but he doesn't believe manmade influences are causing catastrophic climate changes.

Spencer contends there is not yet enough known about the Earth's atmosphere to understand exactly what occurs naturally to stabilize the earth's climate.

"I don't think we understand what happens. We can watch it happen on the (climate) models, we know it happens, but we don't know for sure how it happens," Spencer said.

Developing new energy technology is the only way to know for sure, he said, because he believes the existing climate models are too sensitive…..

We must always believe our scientists. "Rail travel at high speed is not possible, because passengers, unable to breathe, would die of asphyxia - Dr. Dionysys Lardner (1793-1859)" "I can accept the theory of relativity as little as I can accept the existence of atoms and other such dogmas-Ernst Mach (1838-1916), professor of Physics at the University of Vienna" Will Dr Grey join this list with his continued position that global warming is not influenced by man?
