Oddie: How much do you think you regular claims work has fallen off since the "mold gold" crap.?

Question # 2. What percentage of your old water claims seemed to be  "odd"

My answer. Over 50%

Regular claims seem to be down at least 50%. I think this is caused not only from the switch to a named peril policy, but also due to 1% deductibles and ACV policies. I still see a few $500 deductibles, but most are 1% or more.  When you combine a $2000 deductible with an ACV policy, on a ten + year old 3-tab roof, no one is happy.

The only odd water related item I can think of is the increasing number of toilet water supply line losses where the white plastic nut cracks, flooding the house.

50% fall off sounds like my guess also.

The odd water claims always seem to occur in houses with 90 % carpet floor coverings that must have a perfect level slab, a $500. Ded. and has wet carpet in the master bedroom closet that is 60 feet from the leak.

Now hold on Steve. You have to use logic. How could the water run through the carpet diagonally for about 60 feet under many sole plates and wet the far corner of the master closet outside wall if it was not level ? Yes we paid just like you did .

Lets get back to the coverage in Texas. Seems some of the carriers who write more Homeowner- 3 than any other ISO policy got the great state of Texas to approve this form about 2 years ago, so you Yankees can be up to snuff if a big one hits Texas this year.

Am I the only person who can see the nightmare of thousands of people displaced for weeks with tidal surges in Texas. Thousands of lives will be saved by fleeing the area. State Farm pays for fleeing in the face of a hurricane, but the other carriers stick a finger up to see how the wind is blowing and on this topic it will make Mississippi and Louisiana after Katrina look like the minor leagues. Why don,t we ask the pols this question and see who will broaden the peril.

Have you guys ever noticed the streaks from the turbines down to the eave or gutters?

The galvanized metal releases a chemical that washes down slope during a rain and the chemical kills the fungus that stains comp roofs.

Why isn't someone selling strips of galvanized metal that would be installed at or near the ridge that go from roof edge to roof edge? This would remove all the algae or fungus from the roof over a short period of time as the rain carries the chemical down slope to the bottom edge.

I would pursue this but I've been promoted here at the massage parlor. I'm now in charge of valet parking and sidewalk sweeping.

Yep and also around lead plumbing Jacks. I have seen copper along the ridge on a red comp roof and it seemed to work. My comp roof is 9 years and we paid for meldew resistant.  seems to working fine, but the new home's about about 1990 are very dark from mold, oops meldew, oop fungus well you know what I mean.

Who says all we have is a reputation, thats not exactly correct in Houston. I get several new assignments on roof claims after some of the rains with pea size hail and the contingency roofers stir up a claim. I call to make an appointment for the next day with the roofer to inspect and several hours later I get a email  or phone call saying kill the file as it was a duplicate assignment. Since it was not inspected I kill the file at no charge. Seems the Houston roofers know my reputation and I need to work out a reciprocal agreement with an old Dallas adjuster with the same problem to switch cities on a Saturday. Whats new in this business ?.....Is it still which way is the wind blowing today, it has been like this for 50 years that I know of.

Re: using galvanized metal on the roof to kill whatever - in the Pacific Northwest they use strips of galvanized metal just below the ridge or copper wire along the ridge and they both work fairly well for a short time.
