I am in the process of building a laptop as I enter the adjuster's realm. I was wondering, How compatable if at all is vista with the software that you all use, or is out there?

I understand Xactimate 25 is compatible, 24 is not and that's what most vendors are using if they use Xactimate. I don't know about MSB / Integraclaim. I have always thought I would like to build a notebook. Where do you get the parts, ie; case, board, ect?

I have a few online places that I shop. I build desktops for friends and such, this will be my first notebook. It should prove easy enough, I'm not as user friendly with the notebooks.

heres a few places that i shop from regularly and have grown to trust.

Hope that helps, thanks for the vista info. Let me know if you have any questions about building your notebook.

I have the full vista operating system and I have opted to not install it yet. You can probably go to the websites for the software and see any compatability issues.

We get it right the first time

I currently use Vista and Xactimate 24. There are patches that need to be downloaded from Xactimate which took me about 4 hours to do. If you can install Windows XP go for it.

I currently have Vista and cannot recommend it to anyone. IMO, stick with Windows XP Pro for the next year, at least.

I also now have Vista and it is a power hog. I am  on my second new HP laptop. The first Vista was so messed up, Best Buy just gave me a new laptop. I could not find anyone selling new PC's that had XP Pro, so I had no choice. I had purchased one on the U-Bid.com, but it was a mess and U-Bid left me out to dry and would not send me a new PC. I do not recommend U-Bid to anyone. Vista is not a good operating system right now. Perhaps with their patches they will fix the problems. What a joke, but a good money maker for you know who.

Tom there is little choice for the end user but to bite the bullet as you have. In a way it is a good thing because if an adjuster has a hard crash or it gets stolen he is going to be forced to run out grab a new computer and it will be Vista.

One product that kept my XP and now Vista running smoothly is Executive software diskeeper defragmentation system. It defrags your system and when set in automatice defrag, continues to defrag while working. Works much better and more reliable than MS defrag. This is their 30 download trial website. Copy and paste into browser.

I understand that M/S has a SP1 download to fix some of the Vista problems. It is in beta, so I will wait a month or so after its release to download. It's about time they fixed some of the Vista problems, however, knock on wood, I have not had that many problems with this new HP laptop. Just need some work to keep it busy. MSB Integraclam and Xactware install just fine. John says Simsol is having no problems with install and Powerclaim is ok with it.

You can still order a new computer at www.delloutlet.com with Windows XP. I didn't really want a Dell but it's all I could find where I could get a brand new computer this week up in TN as all the stores are selling them only with Vista. It should arrive soon and I was thankful to find a new one up here with Windows XP.

Maybe by next hurricane season Vista will be ready to pay ball with all. I saw where Tom mentioned SP1 was out in beta already. While all of our solutions were designed for Vista it is still a pain for those who can not get drivers for some of their hardware. Internally late next year we may start to move to Vista beyond the testing department where it had been in place since the beta days. All of our new Dells come with XP as well. It seems as we gain in computer power that the OS just comes along and gobbles it up.
