Welcome back, Steve. Did not want to see you pull a Leonardo DiCaprio / Howard Hughes Aviator take off. I'd guess more serious pain and heartache lies in the future when some of these good times aren't available. Hang in there. I do not know what would happen if the same occurred here... all support goes your way.

appears to be related to the presence of iron disulfide (FeS2 pyrite).

I have handled these claims in Florida. The 'gypsum' in the drywall is made from metallurgical coal ash, a byproduct of steel making. Apparently, humidity causes the drywall to release a gas that contains sulfur. Exposed copper pipes and wiring turn black. You will most likely know if Chinese drywall is present as soon as you enter a dwelling.
