Apparently...

Here in Roy's clubhouse, Roy has decided to change the focus to one of education and less of our freeswinging style of topic evolution. While he genuinely appreciates the topics of a technical interest, those current event topics that generate tremendous discussion no longer fit his image of this sites goals. In other words, no more hurricanes and tidal waves on this calm blue ocean.

Granted our boy lil' Jimmy Flynt can over react. Granted I am sarcastic and moody. Granted that Clayton can come across as pretentious. Granted that Lon came onto the scene like a new bully on the block trying to fit in with the group. Granted that each of us have our foibles and fits. Nobody is perfect. What's that old Methodist expression?...'When you get to be perfect, all their gonna do is put nail holes in your hands!'

I don't quite understand the slamming on the brakes over the current controversy, even tho the reaction was headed towards volcanic eruption. In the past, other episodes have run their course and the rationalities of the crowd have prevailed.

My question is, why is this episode any different in the way it is to be handled? Can some light be shed on your thinking? Is it simple disagreement? Are you being placed between a rock and a hard place? Do behind the scenes politics play a factor?

Less posting = less controversy! Much boredom. We are independent adjusters and as such we tend to be a wee bit opinionated and out spoken. Roy, the posting and the hits were up during this controversy, and a needed issue was aired. Crawford is big enough to defend itself. As annoying as some of the posting can be, we do not need censorship. Please re think.

Rather Heady subject, Nes't Pas?

Agreed, that we have had many similar controversies in the years of this venue. And most of them have led to naught. Yet, it is RARE that a discussion has not been allowed to run it's course.

We are a virtual community, in which one of us may actually be many, and no one knows for sure who is who, and what cook(s) are stirring the pot. All wish to know who is GB or DWW or Jack.

The freedom of speach is understood to be present here, HOWEVER, this does not mean that anyone can say anything at anytime. For example, try saying,"there's a bomb in my suitcase, at an airport" or "I'm goning to shoot so and so".

A comment such as the above would generally land you in the hoosegow. This community is perused constantly by many more that the members. It is monitored daily by many carriers, IA's, Staffers and the Genneral Public. It does not behoove us to downgrade anyone, be they individuals, companies, carriers or others.

In short, if you dont have anything good to say, "ferme la bouch".

My sincere hope is that Roy will maintain an open mind, not be pressured by anyone, and continue to allow constructive, educational and opinionated controversy on this web site.

This was a lesson to me and one I will not soon forget. CADO as an organization is one loud voice. You mess with one and the whole group
comes alive, even explodes. Ghost got mad the other day and it spilled over to me. I felt his anger and they might as well done it to me.

This is a strong union and my participation has made me feel a part. Mark is right and I think every member is entitled to an opinion, we should have a certain amount of humor, and if we are not too caustic toward each other our bond will continue to be strong. We could, as I do remove our own posts. I came back to remove one and it was already removed, thats OK it didn't belong. I have removed others, I felt were not in good taste. We are independant yet have an obligation to each other, whether, we agree or not. Brothers do not always get along and say things they later regret. If I have to hang out with people that think like I do , I would be limited. Besides I know all of my jokes.
Sorry you guys for tail gaiting, I just like to let my professors know I am paying attention.

Well said Dave. Having quality discussion and even disagreement on any subject should always be our goal on this site. Never should we attack someones decisions, even if we dont agree with them. Healthy debate is always good!! Lambasting is NOT. Ghost mentioned a Trade organization. I thought thats what we have here. Disemination of information pertenant to our success as adjusters,Education,Job opportunities,a list of vendors who also use the site as a business tool, tools of the trade,CAT 101 & 102. The list goes on and on. Roy, keep up the good work!!!

I hope everyone understands that no post that I'm aware of about the vendor have been removed from the Hall of Shame thread. The topic was locked mainly to allow for time for the community to cool down a little. However, if you feel that there is more that needs to be said then I will reopen it. I apologize if anyone feels that any of mine actions have been bias. I have tried not to take any action that would be considered as such. I believe this is first debate of this nature that we have had in the new forum. This forum was put in placed as way to try and get pass the negative tone of the old forum. I have received many emails that indicated that they were getting tried of the negative and unprofessional post.

If some of the more vocal members would like to draw up some forum guidelines I would be interested in seeing them. If you wish may start a thread on the subject.

Roy, I have to weigh in here and say that IMHO this site belongs to you, part and parcel. What you decide to do is for you to decide. Free speech, I don't think so. We all work for the man. In any event my vote is for continueing the site and letting the chips fall as they may. But, at the same time I for one understand the risk.

Roy,

Since the site was inaccessible earlier, I sent the following post by email for you to post when it was up. Since you have apparently not had time to do so, I will go ahead and post it myself. Keep up the good work. I think my posts have caused you a problem and I do not want your site to suffer for those posts. My post follows:

Roy, Jim, Ghost, Kile, Chuck, Clayton and others,

Admins, please feel free to delete any of my posts you think might hurt any adjuster here. It is not fair to some for my posts to cause this forum to be less of a resource for the people who are its biggest users and supporters. I can and do find other ways to protest what I might consider to be injustices. Heck, I may even start a board that is totally anonymous and CATALOG the supposed injustices doled out by "roofers", contractors, lawyers, insureds, vendors and carriers.

Until that happens, you have my permission to remove any of the posts I've made that you think could hurt the obvious good this board does in so many ways. My complaints, as Ghost said, are almost peril specific and certainly deal with only a small part in the overall scheme of things.

I'll check in from time to time and I will let you know if I get a site that has an anonymous complaint bulletin board. Believe me, while it might make some insurers uncomfortable, it will also make plenty of "roofers", "experts" and policyholders uncomfortable, also. To paraphrase Alan, Fraud is Fraud no matter who participates and I've seen my share from every one of the parties.

Please do not take this the wrong way. This is a general statement not directed at any one carrier or vendor: I have the freedom to say many things you guys cannot since I answer to insureds but I wish carriers and vendors showed as much loyalty and honesty back to you as you guys have given them over your careers.

In closing, I appreciate the chance to post my thoughts here and the eventual acceptance of that right by people who didn't necessarily agree with me. Anyone who is interested in contacting me outside the board may send an email to lonsterling22@hotmail.com and I will also welcome photos if anyone has questions or odd roofing losses they need help on.

Roy, if I post something I think is harmless and you disagree, I'll accept your judgement on it. This board needs to continue to flourish.

Long live CADO and many thanks to Roy and the rest of you.

Lon

Good show Lon.

I agree with Chuck. We must rely on Roy's decisions and support him. I love CADO and enjoy the the points made by all the contributors. Sometimes we do get carried away. I think the major thing is we must remember is where we are posting and that thousands of eyes see what we post and that it does influence a lot of people.
