Ladies and gentlemen, I'm back from my walk. I went out in the country and walked along the shores of a good salmon flyfishing river, until my knee numbed out on me as usual; and I had to sit and get mad at myself.

Coming back and looking in on the web site, I meekly suggest as a personal observation that the issue has both been elaborated on and has gone beyond any benefit of much further communication of it.

Funny thing about everyone that accesses CADO, at least from my perspective; I have never met and do not know likely 99% of its' members, and likely about 80% of the members at large do not know each other. That is unfortunate, in that it doesn't allow each of us to understand each other better or the way we should. Our "independence" should not be a barrier against helping each other.

I have expressed my views in other threads past, that "cat adjusting" covers a wide and undefined umbrella; from true "cat work", to mold assignments, branch assists, and various other types of overflow claims work. I have said that our functions should be better defined.

I was comforted by the personal emails I got before this bew hah, from those that offered to help and contribute. I have also been genuinely humbled by personal emails in the last 24 hours by those asking that this "Fire Scene ..." training project go forward.

I guess I find my own answers when I further explore, "what can someone who wants to come under the cat umbrella do" - to enhance or better their likelyhood of achieving success in their pursuits. Obviously, education is one principal route. I should not shock you when I say that the "one peril wonder" label is echoed by carriers at times, with no positive picture attached to it.

I want to go forward. This industry has given me a good living, and many others along the way over the years have taken their time to do likewise and allowed me to benefit from their dedication and teaching efforts. Simply, I feel obligated to give something back. Frankly, that has been my only purpose in my comments or commentary since I first "spoke" on CADO.

So, can we all take a deep breath, recognize our freedom of choice and recognize that aside from that, we can not reverse the issue that raised our hackles; and continue to better prepare ourselves for new opportunities while we seek ways to better define our role and success in the future?

Could I ask Roy, or another moderator to "clean up" the "Fire Scene ...." thread, by moving the posts from and including my post #38 to the end of that thread to one of the threads that dealt with the controversy.

I will get back to my prep work for this session in an effort to try and get a few days ahead, and hopefully sometime Monday but no later than Tuesday morning we will launch.

Now we are onto a constructive avenue.

Perhaps the term "catadjuster" is a misnomer, in todays business place.

In '95 when Roy started CADO, it was, IMHO, a VIRTUAL meeting place. Here, all whom were in this business could meet whenever, from wherever and comiserate, ruminate and generally learn from our peers and to rekindle those oft forgotten times when we met for short periods of time and shared our collective "War Stories".

Fortunately, the CADO 2000 blast was an opportunity to meet with many old friends, make some new ones and share the common interests. CADO is the ONLY way we can share instant information to the benefit of all of the participants. IN 2000 we spoke of another "gathering", but due to circumstances this has not occured.

However, what would prevent some of us hosting a regional event, (perahps a 4-8 State area) and ofering solid educational information?

The industry and profession into which we have all opted has changed, as all things change,so we must.

The fact that vendors employ us in so many different ways, we are not always "CATADJUSTERS". We are anything a carrier needs to support their operations and we are supplied to the carrier by the vendor who lobbies for the position. Many of us have been branch assists, call center assists, part timers, vacation replacements etc. These are NOT true Catastrophes.

The mold issue was a deal where several vendors agreed to supply personell for a daily rate for a period of time. Those that accepted the offering did so willingly and some stuck it out and others opted out. The decisions made were beneficial to the partipants and were done with full knowledge.

We are suffering from what is referred to as the "usetacould's" and many have done almost nothing to change things. Those of us that choose to work, make ourselves marketable...........

Knowledge is Power, so the more you know about the insurance industry the more powerful and marketable you are. If you choose to only be a single peril adjuster, then the odds of you working constantly are minimal. Every person with whom this old dog is associated is , and has been , working as much as they wish. They may not be doing exactly what they wish to do, (and who is) but they are working and supporting their families to the best of their ability.

The "CADO 2000" theme was "Learn to Earn". How many have done that?

[u]The virtual community which exists only here,[u/]is the best way to accomplish your goals. The experience and talent encomassed by the members is UNSURPASSED anywhere in the world.

Lecture is now over......................................Have to study.

CLAYTON, You are right,I imagine a lot of people are ashamed this morning, however it did prove a point. We are a tighter knit group than I expected. One gets mad, and the whole unit goes goes off like a bomb. I can only express an opinion for what its worth, I would like to get on with training.

The mold situation is only going to be around a little while and it will pass. It is not "CAT" work, and more of a legal problem brought on by media feeding the public only part of the story. Like the old story, if a dog bites a man it's not news, but if a man bites a dog it is and the man could get ten years for cruelty to animals.

We do need to be in tune, and should know what fellow adjusters are experiencing, and we should go off like a bomb, right ,wrong, or indifferent thats the response you get from people who are close and one of the best unions there is. No one in their right mind would poke a stick at a hornets nest. I feel bad that I had to get mad, but the feeling that we stuck together makes up for it.
