Just received a invitation to attend a annual adjusters conference.
Is it common for venders to charge you to attend?
This seems to me a little out of line since they collect 40 % off of us anyway?
Comments please and should you go? does it help?

Ron, From past experience they are well worth attending. You will make some good contacts, gain many certs or CEs if you apply youself. I have always attended these trade conferences for what ever field I was in. This is my first run at an adjusters conference and I wouldn't miss it. As for the charge, its within the ball park of all others. They cost big bucks to put on and unless we chip in, it would be too costly for one company. There are hidden costs that we never hear about. CADO is having one about the same time and need support, it will be a good one if all goes well. Attend as many as you can, you won't regret it. I may be up your way this Spring, we are going to have a family get together at Wappapello Lake, we camp out for three or four days and eat a bunch. Its been about a year since I was there. Of course we'll wet a hook if we're gonna eat fish. |

The networking alone is worth it. People tend to call people they know. If they are looking at a list of 500 names and remember your name it could be the difference between working and sitting at home watching the Weather Channel. |

Networking is the cheapest tool you could possibly own. One calling card or one handshake out of several hundred could make a "GREAT" difference in the course of your life. You should shake all the hands you can, and swap calling cards with everyone possible. Try networking, it may change your life. If you don't know where you are going, you're going to end up somewhere else. Absolutely. unclelynn |

Newt glad to hear that you will be God's country. Call me and just might turn you on to some good fishing.
Thanks for the comments. I can see Cato charging but still having trouble with the others and I do agree with marketing however it should also be on your past work. I have been out of storming for about 2 years now and getting back in.

Rez, Are you going to the CADO get-to-gether? I may see you there. If you are refering to the San Antonio conference, I would like to go, and don't know yet about my schedule. I got so much in the mill now it would be hard to make that trip, it would chop a week or more out of my schedule. With all my study, I have to micro manage my time.(I am a slow learner). In March I will slow down and get with the family for a few days. Most industry conferences cost for all except employees and I don't think we are considered employees even though we may be on the list as maybe's. |

Newt this one is vegas and that is just the place I don't need to be. only certification that I see is Flood. would like to work for this company but cost of going and knowing I would lose seems to me not the thing to do.
At first I said no the CATO but if they offer being certified by several I will go and don't mind paying.
Seems to me this might the best if they have vendors their to meet.
I tried 2 years ago on meetings and the cost for each one just never seemed to work out. Could have been me I quess?

Rez, I downloaded the NFIP manual from the FEMA home page, have the policies and working on that. If I can't take it this year, maybe next. I think it has a lot of the same wording as FWUA. I would like to take that and get a few more CEs. I think I may have my 30, because I had 28 1/2 a couple of months ago.
The CADO team is trying their best to get all the vendors and training resourses they can for this meet. I feel obligated to attend the conference because they are working hard on this. I have got more out of CADO than just about anyone on here. This is my only contact with the wild world of adjusters and it is the only way I have of feeling my way through this maze. I want to keep in contact with you so we can have coffee or maybe get together out at the lake for a hand shake session. We usually do some fishing up there and will have two or three boats. I have lots of relitives in the area. I took my boat the last time and don't think I will go that route this time, because I don't plan on taking two vehicles. |
