I think that Dr. Gray is no doubt correct. To argue against his theory would be to ignore
history, statistics and the trend of ever more urbanization of our coastal areas.

I would opine that when that great big hellacious hurricane does hit the right urbanized area, it will be the last great hurricane most of us will ever work under our current system.

Wholesale financial failure of many carriers and a depletion of reinsurance capacity will have have several long term consequences in a shift in public policy in how we insure coastal risks. Paradigm shifts in these public and private policies will likely mean an end to cat adjusting for hurricanes as we know it.

So lick your chops in anticipation of that big hellacious one that Dr. Gray and many others predict. Enjoy. Earn. Save. Then go find another career.

There won't be much left of the American insurance industry afterwards; it will be in shambles. We can expect the state and federal government to step in and become the insurers after that. And we all know what that means.

The American insurance industry remains as unprepared for that next hellacious hurricane as it was for Andrew a decade ago. Perhaps even more so.

Oh when will they ever learn?

Jim at what level of damage does the industry collapse. A repeat of Donna in 1960 ( http://weather.unisys.com/hurricane/atlantic/1960/DONNA/track.gif ) would likely do 100 billion in insured losses. That roughly 4 times Andrew and more scattered then Floyd. Could big red take a 20 billion hit without re-insurance? To big we'll do lots of work but will we get paid?

Large hail North and West of Houston. Pinehurst, The Woodlands and it looks like maybe near Katy too. This may be the first big one of the season. All we can do is wait until Monday and see what kind of claims start rolling in.

Heavy storms moving into the Houston metro area at 7:30p.m. CDT.

When checking on current storms I like this link among others.

http://www.spc.noaa.gov/climo/reports/today.html

The current report list 37 reports of hail some of the over 2 inches. One report states that there was damage to cars and homes.

Also, on the CADO Storm Reports page you can find some current headlines on storms.

I live in Kingwood it was about the size of small square motel ice, for 3 min. Good luck-Good year>

Revised Monday @ 13:00 Still raining, but this will be a very slow starter. Red & Blue checking but not sending.[xx(]

well, the weather service, news and news papers said 4.25" hail in Magnolia Texas. Went ther and no one heard of any of that. 5" hail in Crystal city, went there too and nothing but ghetto. A hail payment check would be almost what the home is worth. Then the homeowner would keep the money for tires for there car etc.
