Since a couple of adjusters mentioned their favorite friends and canine pets, we need a thread here where you can tell us about YOUR dog (or other favorite pets).
And do any of you carry your pets along with you on cat assignments (I do), and if so, how do you handle the special requirements which pets can require?

Tom and I have three dogs. We have two Pomeranians, Tiki (short for Mighty Red Tequila Sunrise) and Teddy,(short for Teddy Bear Rambo) whom we have had the priviledge of being owned by, since "Andrew". We acquired our Alaskan Husky, Frank, nearly two years ago. Tom saw him on T.V. on a Tuesday, and he was going to be euthanized if not adopted by Friday. Of course, we adopted him or he adopted us. The name "Frank" was not our idea, he came to us with it. I tried to change it to "King" or "Duke", but as he was 7 years old already, "Frank" he was.
Due to our long and arduous labors, we do not take them with us, as we feel it would be unfair to them. They guard the home front and someone stays with them while we are away. |

We had Snookie and Sam, fishing dogs, Snookie a Yorkshire and Sam a Silky, now we have Dave, Rat Terrier, and Beau, Silkie Terrier. Neither of these two are trained to do anything other than announce the postman and catch squirrels. |

I am a little embarassed, but our Shepherd is an AKC registered White German Shepherd and her name is "White Shadow Warrior"....she has the Shadow part down pat as she follows me everywhere, but she is definitely not a warrior!!!! She is 106lbs. of woofer......the only thing she has bitten is a cheese burger!!! Oh, but what a love....she is increiditably gentle with other animals and children........I wish I could get the damn picture to attach....

I can't begin to say how much I miss my 2 four-legged buddies when I'm on assignment (nearly as much as I miss my better half). They are a mixed breed of Australian Shepherd/Collie. They look like Aussies but are Collie size each weighing in at about 90 lbs. They have far too much energy and are way too large to make an extended trip. It would be impossible to take just one with me because they keep each other entertained. Oh the sacrifices we incurr to help others during the most chaotic days of their lives. |

This is my fishing dog, Sam. He caught this bass at a pond in Mississippi, several years ago. |

Initially I would take the two dogs with me, on fishing trips for Bluegill and Redears, then I realized that they could smell the bream beds and were indicating the direction by their position in the boat and by their general demeanor. Sam got really good at it and would occasisionally catch a fish on his own. They were always entertaining. |

Set the stage: Corner of West and Leike (pronounced Lucky)go figure!! Portsmouth VA 7th claim of the storm Mon Sept 29
Two story pull-up. Eave was 24'. I was not comfortable getting on the roof with no ladder extending above the eave, so I got on the porch roof and pulled the ladder up behind me. (very gentle sloped v-crimp tin porch roof) The homeowner was going to come out through a window and steady the ladder for me. Problem being the house was turn of the century and all the windows were stuck shut. At this point I should have done something different, but I continued on to the 8/12 comp roof with the ladder not secure.
I did my inspetion and all that it entailed. Upon returning to my ladder, I either stepped too high or my weight shifted and the feet of the lader slid out.
I rode the ladder off the porch roof. As we came off the porch the ladder went right and I went left. I landed left foot first 20'from the house, due to the way the ladder motion carried me away from the structure.
25' down and 20' out, somebody do the math on that one for me!!
Broke the Tibia just above the Joint surace, and the Fibula shattered mid calf.
Been 6 weeks in a cast up to my thigh, and two weeks in a cast just below my knee. Two more weeks and I get a walking cast!!!!!
I'm fast an the road to recovery and going stir crazy at the same time!
Please use ladders to return to the ground, freefall is overrated. Although the Demeral and Morphine are kind of nice. |

Brad so sorry to hear about your accident and injury. Forgive me for asking, but did you have insurance or was this covered under worker's comp? I know many adjusters who have suffered through two accidents, with the first being the physical one and the second one not having insurance and having to pay for everything out of pocket. Please forgive me for asking but it might help others here better plan for themselves. Good luck with the recovery and know that you'll be back soon. |
